I just read a fairly negative review of this film. It is supposed to be much too talky for an action flick. Personally, I will give Woo the benefit of the doubt (I enjoyed 'Silent Night'), but am irritated that we're getting another skinny girl-boss as an action lead. It has become impossible not to wince every time Hollywood trots out this cliché. |
It has Eric Cantona on it, I´ll watch it, expecting some good kicks |
So this was ok imo. 6.5/10. Had some good action sequences, the direction had some interesting choices, Nathalie was fine (but not great), Sam was...himself as always, & the story was ok. My main gripe is the low-ish budget made this a pretty run-of-the-mill action movie, but then that's how I think of most Woo films. |
that woman on the cover is among the worst looking i have seen - she's looks like the lead singer from "everything but the girl" ( not a good thing) |
Relax she doesn't look anything like her in the film, you're perfectly safe. |
So Fincher's movie is the exact same plot as this John Woo movie? Think I'll watch it to see for myself. But thanks for tip that they have the same name. Cuz I probably would have never been able to figure that out ... |
woosh. right over everyone's heads. thats what woosh means. |
Face it, the boys commenting on how unrealistic it is for a woman in the role are the same ones who watch cartoons and go "that's so fake" |
V:10 A:9 subs:9+ M:4. Quality based on tasteful tgx 8GB+ version. Movie full of cartoon like action - a couple of which scenes are incredibly good, but reality levels largely cartoon like. No wokey or woman hating - just poorly done. 'unreal action scenes can be done in ways that suspend thje critical factor - these aren't them. Major faux pas in continuity and plot development from the start. Found myself fast forwarding through it. |
Original with Chow Yun-fat was pretty entertaining. Might give this a go since John Woo is also directing and skinny girl boss "Queen of the Dead" is preferable to rotund girl boss. |
The last thing this movie needed was a remake. However, what's worse is that they deemed it necessary to exchange a male lead for a female lead. That's just ridiculous. |
Honestly I'd be 100% with you, if it weren't for one big caveat: John Woo himself (who made the original) is the one remaking it. I don't think anybody put a gun to his head (pun intended) and forced him, so he must have felt like doing so. I find this fascinating personally, like Cronenberg's recent remake as well. |
"THEY deemed it necessary to exchange a male lead for a female..." same film-maker. his decision. deciding to do something different with his own story. it's not woke, it's a genuine artistic decision. |
Guest-2459: In 1967, the group Classics IV released the song "Spooky" with the lyrics "spooky little girl like you". In 1968 Dusty Springfield released her own version of the song, gender flipping the lyrics: "spooky little boy like you". I bet the sexist "victims of woke!" freaked back then at this "abomination". |
As I expected, this is a garbage movie. 30 minutes in, and I cannot watch a second more! This is nothing more than John Woo checking off the required boxes so he can remain relevant in Hollywood. |
was pretty dam good, that young smokin lady has elevated her action status for sure, but i was almost giong to turn it off until dude started sniffing her coochie, and i was like.. i wish that was me :)). kept watching and it took off from there. i do like the dude who plays "Lupin" in that tv series..i think that's the name. |
The Movie is rated 5.7 on IMDB and that is only because it is propped up by the paid "10/10 best movie i have ever seen" review bots. |
