This is not racism: I'm black and I'm not okay with them changing Ariel's sink color. Seriously, don't destroy memories and stories (since placement in map's location and age doesn't even matches the probably skin color). Wanna make a new story about (let's say) a half black, half Asian but Russian Orthodox mermaid? Be my guess! But make something new, don't destroy something we already like and love. Same with Lord of the Rings! Elves must be cute, white and blonde! Black humans? Be my guest! Why elves?! Once again: I'm black and I don't like these nonsense! Not related to racism at all! |
Absolutely a valid (personal) opinion, but take a look at the history of comments from many others on this page, and the same non-prejudicial stance cannot be said for them with regard to sex, gender, sexuality, race, and even basic science. Still others, myself included, won't let that prejudice go unchallenged. |
You do realize that Disney changed the mermaid in the first movie, right? Compare that movie to the original story. I'm simply flabbergasted how people draw a line where they want to see the line. Want to keep everything original? Fine, but then be consistent in that.and never accept any adaptation whatsoever. |
Thank you! You are awesome, I am so sick of being considered racist when I voice my opinion about the new Ariel!! |
Thanks Pkumkowski, it's a shame that you've never actually posted such an opinion before now. Of course people have that opinion and are not necessarily racist, but check the history of some of the characters commenting here; call it where you believe the evidence indicates. |
well for that one girl that feels excluded its a good thing .... for the stupid adults its about the kids not your stupid asses but your to brain dead to know ,, this has to be all about u huh ... |
I like being divided from you freaks. I like hating on this movie and the culture behind it. I have no issues with segregation of right and left. No 1800s prince of any white country I know of is going to marry a black mermaid but whatever, you gotta give the left behinds and throw aways something to cheer for. |
Only liberals get to have free speech online. Not even this comment makes it onto the site 99% of the time. |
Halle Bailey is really pretty so it would be pretty understandable if a "1800s prince of any white country" falls in love with her. |
"Only liberals get to have free speech online" lmfaooo tell me you haven't ever been online w/o ever telling me you haven't. You should see the right wing side of Twitter. |
@Guest-3532: Please read the original story. There is only one reference to any nation in the entire story. It says that the ship where Ariël first sees the prince on, carries "the flags of all nations in the world". Not even in 1837 people thought all the nations in the world where white. Skin color isn't politics. |
if they did exist , mermaids would be nude , why would they bother wearing a top underwater ? who's gonna notice ? the film would also triple its box office if she was topless. remember boobs are nice - they are not rude , YOUR mind is. |
Kinda flawed logic about mermaids having to be nude, but sure, would make for a much better movie. |
Not a single sea creature with boobs? Marine mammals? Mammals = mammary glands = dolphins, killer whales, manatees, seals... human beings. Yep, boobs are not "rude" we all have them (yes, even males) |
Ask Guest-4136 if he/she/they meant mammary glands or 'boobs'. |
Guest-2877... oh please I can see the spoof porno titles now... Fish and Tits? |
I'm sure 4136 meant boobs, not mammary glands. You know, te fleshy ones they show in adult movies. Not the dissected ones in biology class. |
How did you know that was the kind of movie he was hoping for? |
I agree they also ruined my favorite movie ever, the original little mermaid.. Ariel is ugly now and her hair isn't even red. My daughter cried for hours when she saw her Ariel dolls are basically garbage now...SMH.. Wow Disney, great job making little girls and little girls at heart , cry! |
I'm sure I'm not alone (although I may be on this page ), in finding Halle Bailey to be a very attractive young woman. Beauty of course is in the eye of the beholder, but I'm sure her new dolls will sell well enough. |
I have to agree. It's as if the writers couldn't come up with an original idea so they just decided to politicize an older story for a quick buck. |
Disney wrote a script for this movie in the late 1930. Then, after the success of Splash, made a new script with incorporation of the 1930's changes to the original story in the 1980s. Nothing about the little mermaid is 'original'. Not now, not in 1989, not in the 1930s. Selective outrage is unnecessary. |
My condolences to the person who sat thru this to record it. |
They should've leaned into the whole urban thang by titling it Lil' Mermaid. |
You do know that the tale and this movie are two different things? |
" A whole new world, A whole new point of view" and the people here just want to point out that our quotes are from other disney movies, avoiding the issue we bring up that this isnt the same messaging humanity has pushed for 10,000 years. THAT tale is as old as time. Theirs? Just a trend. |
Least interested. Not watching this load of.... Others who feel different, be my guest and knock yourselves out. Cheers. |
Leave it up to the culture vultures at Disney to take a story that takes place in Denmark and try to make it "diverse". |
Not even Hans Christian Andersen claims the story takes place in Denmark. Why do you? |
If you think Denmark is all white, you're dead wrong. |
The real vultures are the ones that claim everything. The original fairy tale doesn't play in Denmark. Andersen never said a word about the mermaids skin colour. Why would he? She's not (yet) human. Can't you see that you are the real vulture here? Claiming everything and everyone to be white without reason? |
My score: 3 out of 10... Not woke enough! The prince is still male. Disney should go real woke or go home! We need a tale of two princess, a mermaid and a human! Also, too much water... |
The Little Affirmative Action, and what was the name of her fish friend? was it Pander. |
Video 7 - Audio 6, As for the comments, jaysus i would of loved if they had cast a black nonegender 46 year old male who is age fluid. Now that would of been entertainment lol |
