So Lady Usher is played by a Latina actress and she did not exist in the Edgar Allan Poe story.
Roderick brings home a girlfriend who also did not exist in the Edgar Allan Poe novel. The filmmakers created this character so they can cast an African American actress to give the movie some representation.
Looking at the full cast Roderick's twin sister, Madeline Usher is missing. She is the main drive of the entire Poe's story. Guess they eliminated her character so to give the ethnic girl friend and the ethnic mother more screen time.
