Will watch and let you all know if worth watching. In the meantime, decent Lovecraft or Lovecraft-adjacent movies, in no particular order: In the Mouth of Madness. Sam Neil and Jürgen Prochnow were great in this but the most chilling line was Julie Carmen's "I'm losing me!" John Carpenter's The Thing (as opposed to previous movie incarnations, it was inspired by the terrifying organic machine servant of the Old Ones, the rebellious Shoggoth, in The Mountains of Madness.) Underwater: this was demonised as 'woke'. It wasn't. It flopped at the box office which was an injustice. I liked Kristen Stewart in this, and I didn't like her in Twilight. Loved the end. Event Horizon The Void The Endless Nope Annihilation. One of the more frightening ones from a conceptual level. A subversion of reality itself, very much a Lovecraftian concept of cosmic horror. The mutated bear was one of the most horrifying monsters since The Thing. Color Out of Space: Yes I know, 'everybody' hates Nick Cage. I don't. But I actually enjoyed although my wife was WTF dude it sucked. People tell me The Lighthouse with Dafoe and Pattinson is good. Going to rent it out from TG tonight, the rental fees here are very reasonable |
Underwater was amazing - went in with 0 expectations and really enjoyed it. |
My man, I totaly agree with Underwater, I loved it and the score and box-office anger me. I realy like your list, gonna check the one I missed. |
The best lovecraft depiction is probably the black and white silent short film "Call of Cthulhu" 2005. No other movie really captures the 1920s horror vibe. |
Watched Annihilation high on mushrooms and it was terrifying, one of my best movie experiences. |
I've somehow missed Underwater, I'll have to track that down now. And of course there is also The Whisperer in Darkness and The Deep Ones They're not to bad |
The Endless,The Endless,Color Out of Space and Annihilation i like too, so i will give a try to this one and the Void. Tankz |
Your spot on with all that you listed. Stumbled upon Annihilation because it had Portman in it. Saw the original The thing as a kid but watched the 2011 because of Winstead. Underwater is deff underrated. I still watch The Lighthouse and the picture on the platform in Beacon 23 reminds me of it. |
Underwater and Color Out of Space: highly underrated/overlooked. I thoroughly enjoyed them both. I've seen most of the others you listed, but thanks for the few new-to-me recommendations; I'll check them out, and this is a helpful list for all! |
I'd say Annihilation is much more like Stalker than Lovecraft cosmic horror, but it was good either way. |
Solid list. I'd add The Resurrected, Dagon and From Beyond if looking for Lovecraft inspired films. |
This is so bad, it's actually quite funny! It reminds me of 60's, 70's British TV with lousy props and totally daft monsters. The good news is it's only 0-odd minutes long, and of course you can delete it! There's no believable acting, ludicrous gaps in continuity, and the sets would be disappointing in a college production. I'm sure there will be people who enjoy it, but this punter was not impressed! There was I, expecting a new slant on The Abyss, which is the Deep Sea Adventure I measure all against! |
really poor!!!! what's wrong with you people saying its a great movie, well acted etc. it's really none of those! |
Great concept but man the acting was hilarious and the budget had to of been 10 bucks lmao |
Make that a double nope!! Watched the trailer, if that's the best they could come up with, I think I will give it a miss.... |
> awaken its ancient race of otherworldly beings Ironic, since this movie will put you to sleep. (Is that ironic? I know that rain on your wedding is _not_ ironic.) |
Backyard special effects, actors picked off the street, confusing plot. Everyone dies at the end. Why? |
Speaking as a doomed vessel myself, I'll vouch for this one.You will be deeply upset upon this tale of underwater horror! Many thanks to the abyssal deity GalaxyRG, who rose this forbidden gem from depths unknown! |
