Thanks to the Up-Loader, but even though it is Free here, I still won't be Downloading it! |
waiting for the asian mermaid are we? |
Here's my takeaway. It's diversity rubbish by a bad actress. The original is so much better. |
Pray do tell, what is "the original"? Just teasing you, 'cause I'm sure you mean the 1989 Disney adaptation. But do know that Disney's 1989 adaptation already tells a quite different story than H.C. Andersen's original does. https://www.en-vols.com/en/inspirations-en/culture-en/the-little-mermaid-true-story/ |

In the Disney spirit of "Its all fair and all these classics need to be remade for the modern age and modern generation"... Please do Tarzan next. I really want to see how you tackle a live action black child being abandoned by his parents, in Africa, then raised by apes. |
So, you're describing The Jungle Book (Rudyard Kipling; 1894), only "Mowgli" was raised by wolves not apes. And Tarzan's parents did not "abandon" him, his parents (Viscount and Lady Greystoke) die in the jungle (Tarzan of the Apes, Chapter XXV: Edgar Rice Burroughs). It's been done babes, you should read more |
Y'all can b*tch and moan and name call the other posters - call them "throwbacks" or "racists" or whatever you want. If that makes you sleep better at night feeling like you're in the right and they're in the wrong - go for it. But you can't argue facts and figures. Losses are losses. They are public record and reported because they have to be as part of stock trading. You can be mad as h3ll about the losses and the realities of *why* this movie and all the other movies that cater to 13% of the population failed at a cumulative total that probably will total US$2b by time all is said and done... Be put out all you want about the reasons - be offended by life and people - but you can't DENY the reality of it. A couple billion dollars speaks to facts about the audience voting with their wallets and not *likes* and *hearts* on social media. Production companies can't make payroll on likes and social media posts. The reality of commerce is that these films don't make money. Movie after movie, they don't make money. Period. At some point Hollywood will have to catch up with reality that 80% of social media outrage is not the same thing as 80% of the box office receipts. Personal agenda and narrative on the part of the studio, or director or show runner or whomever only goes as far as their reputation. Once their reputation is shot because they become responsible for millions or billions in losses those people start finding it harder and harder to get work, and those studios find it harder and harder to land contracts for production. Like it or don't - that's just business. |
After reading all the comments, this one is the most sensible one. This person is just letting us know the reality. |
"Couple billion dollars" is not reality, no matter how much you would like it to be true. |
My guy tlhintoq I would like to know what you took when you wrote this. Cuz even tho TLM didn't get a billion for how much hate it got, it was still a success. Got more than $500 miilion. That doesn't look like a loss to me. |
Worse: it's free, you don't want it and you think the whole world needs to know. |
Straight to stream the mermaid, box office numbers must be really bad. Disney must be shtting bricks since snow white also costing another 250 mill. And not one of their pixar movies have break even in the box office. Only marvel is bringing in the benjamins back to the house mouse. I keep picturing bob iger ranting like mikey mouse from southpark. |
Nope she isn't and there are no dwarves in it either, font worry it loos like its been canned. |
Straight to streaming? That was not the case and it did make 560 million at the cinemas, not super good with a 250 million budget but they are not taking a loss, also consider digital sales and DVD/Blu ray sales. It'll come out just fine. |
Not to mention merchandise, franchises and so on. Movies like these will make money for decades to come. Like they all did and still do. Wishful thinking does not make a multinational go bankrupt. |
@Guest-3053. You're ruining the narrative he made up in his head. |
a10v10 the film isn't that bad. huge overreaction from critics and trolls(who probably have no interest in the previous adaption or the book) |
All I can say is I'm looking forward to the day when Rowan Atkinson is cast as John Shaft or perhaps Scarlet Johansson plays Iris West-Allen in a DC Comics Flash movie albeit however demeaning to be gifted one's star roles through character appropriation..... |
Hate to break it to you, but Iris West-Allen has been White AND Ginger in the comics for over 60 YEARS, so an actress like Scarlett Johansson would be perfect casting for the character. As they did with this live-action LITTLE MERMAID movie, they just race-swapped Iris as being Black in the FLASH TV show and film. |

Initially, I was not sure whether to download this movie for my child. So, ignoring all that I had heard about this movie, I gave it a watch before allowing my child to watch. A open mind and ignoring all the outside hype helps to thoroughly evaluate the movie. I still love the original animated versions more but this movie was a nice surprise. I did not find any hint of wokism or anything that could unduly influence my child. Overall, actor selection did not alter the storyline and I found the live actor version entertaining and enjoyable. I deem it safe for my child to watch but each parent or viewer perceives things differently. Give it a download or don't. Choice is completely yours. |
god i just hope the disney ceo doesn't have to sell disneyworld after this movie earnings lol |
The human brain is wired to recognise individuals of the same species. That's why we see a face in every day objects that roughly have two horizontal spots and a horizontal line or spot below. Go ahead, draw it on a piece of paper and you'll see a face in that. Heck, you'll see a face in a bowling ball. Still, there is no face on the paper or on the bowling ball, but your mind says there is. That's pareidolia. Google it. Type "seeing faces in objects" and choose images. You'll see. |
