Do some actual research, don't just parrot what you see on your socials. Reality: The gender pay gap has diminished and disappeared in some fields. The ever increasing numbers of people employed in healthcare and retail however skew that towards a false conclusion that it has disappeared. Fields such as science, finance, tech and insurance have fairly large gender pay gaps when using the controlled gender model. Science has narrowed to about 25%, from nearly 65% in the 1970s. Tech has only narrowed slightly since the 1990s and if you adjust for the increase in female executives and the increase in pay and benefits they have received the gap for non-executive employees has slightly widened. Finance, hoh boy. Finance gender pay gap is insane. There's a very good Newsweek article on this from last year. Under the controlled model women typically earn far less. Someone will say "Commissions, duh." Nope. In financial institutions payroll records reviewed by Newsweek they found that women in the same company with identical positions, education, and experience to male counterparts not only earned smaller salaries (in companies and position where a base salary was paid). but also received smaller commissions for the same product. In 118 out of 267 records reviewed where the position was commission only women with larger total accounts than direct male counterparts earned less. In some cases the disparity was a difference of 20% on their commission rate. They only found 12 cases where the situation was reversed. Insurance would take fifty paragraphs to lay out. But, it's a real mess. What Newsweek did point out is that Financial and Insurance institutions are still very much considered the 'old boy' industries and many of the 'traditions' from 20 or even 50 years ago are still observed. |
