The Negro is often a janitor or prisoner.[7] The character often has no past but simply appears one day to help the white protagonist.[8][9] They usually have some sort of magical power, "rather vaguely defined but not the sort of thing one typically encounters."[8] The character is patient and wise, often dispensing various words of wisdom, and is "closer to the earth".[6] The character will also do almost anything, including sacrificing themselves to save the white protagonist, as exemplified in The Defiant Ones, in which Sidney Poitier plays the prototypical Magical Negro.[6] |

| It's a dig at the magical negro trope, not white people. "Magical Negro" a trope seen in literature and media and has a long history in American film and story. They're typically a secondary or background black character who goes out of his or her way to help the main character who is white. |

| casting majorities for lead roles and minorities as supporting roles with a power that doesn't over-shadow the lead is just marketing trying to appeal to the widest possible audience. it's how so many films cast a fat / nerdy guy as funny a side kick. regardless, the film is bad satire because the jokes are not funny. |
