Watched it. Silent Night is a violent revenge story that focuses on a father's grief. It's a common theme among revenge stories, especially those involving the death of a family member (the 2018 film, Peppermint, is remarkably similar to Silent Night). The story is intense, gritty and has some serious action sequences thanks to director Woo. From the opening minutes of the film we are drawn into a father's physical vengeance against a gang – all the while sporting a Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer sweater. The film is a 90 minutes of zero dialogue. It relies on continuous ominous music with short jarring sequences to hold your interest. Kinnamin is dynamic in the role and his anger is justifiable. The problem - at times it feels over the top. A significant amount of time is spent demonstrating to the audience how angry Kinnamin's character is. The story is a heartbreaking blend of despair and hopelessness mixed with Christmas music. The CAM version has decent audio and resolution. |
why don´t you ever use pronouns? "I´ve watched it." long reviews but still you miss one single letter....always |
"The film is a 90 minutes of zero dialogue" Really? Saved me 90 minutes thx! |
Dude, did you copy paste that from a pro reviews website? It was quite good. uppie for ya |
Does this come with subtitles |
Just a recommendation, at the top of your next review, bc it was an excellent review, could you please put ***May contain spoilers*** "as in that way, if you've seen the movie, your not giving away the plot, etc. to the rest of us who may not have seen the movie yet!" Tyvm, please No spoilers in reviews!:) RT! |
We would watch John Woo movies on VHS with no subs because the action was so cool. This should be fun. Thanks guys! |
As kids we would watch John Woo movies through a crack in the picture house fire exit |
Yep, looking forward to it, though I'm likely to see it in the theater this week (it wasn't as well distributed as it should be). |
The webz says January xx streaming date. My delay of gratification response is screaming 'watch the cam'. Just gotta hold out til appx Dec 15th when all the new series start up to distract me, I can make it. |
Saw it in theater. It's value brand John Wick. Way to much flash back to his kid. 50 minutes NO ACTION. |
Too much testosterone and white-male-supremacy for anyone with any real intelligence... oh wait, yeah, look who likes it |
as im getting to the twilight of my life and hours are soooo precious is it entertaining |
thousands of movies using the same old plot: Family of the main character gets killed and he goes out for revenge. |
Tis our toxic masculinity. Us guys with families, or dogs, can't get enough of being the escapist hero and even some guilty pleasure at being out from under the burden of said family. I doid not just say that. You only thought I did. |
It's an action movie, They like action movies. You'll never hear "re-used plot" when it's about an action movie. The English language has a word for that: hypocrisy. |
It's not your masculinity that's toxic, it's your mentality; easy mistake. |
Woo was use music instead of language, and the movie is all about sight and sound. Extensive dialogue is not always the key to creating a moving and compelling tale, and there are so many films feature very little words... A Quiet Place, Hush, The Bear, Drive, Cast Away, Under the Skin, A Ghost History, No One Will Save You and so on... |
The story is typical. But Master Woo made it epic. A great action game where instead of dialogues there is a meat grinder. Jingle Bells Bang Bang |
Thanks TGX for "Silent Night" (2023), and what an action packed movie we get, so thank you very much for getting us the excellent CAM/TS version which was perfect! A/V=10/10....5 stars!:) M=7.5 bc it's one of my favorite genres, and thx for coming back to USA, John Woo!:) In this one you you just can't stop watching for 90+ minutes bc there's a fairly old song that starts off...."What are words for when no one listens anymore....." Quiz...anyone? 80's! So that's a fairly good hint how the movie will go! Since most of you want to wait it appears to a HD version, I won't put any plot spoilers in my review, but it's an excellent movie, if you like this type! Trying to think of one that was like this, perhaps "Nobody" or can't put it in the same caliber as Raid or Raid II, but IP Man along those lines. Who think the Raid movies like I do have the most action, but ok, they are not going to be revenge thrillers, if I'm remembering correctly, but most action for sure!:) Those 2 movies are in the 8'0's and so is one or two of the IP Man's, IMHO :) Enjoy this one, it's a blast!:) RT:) |
Thanks galaxyguy! finally a great movie in DECEMBER! A wonderful movie for xmas and family. Thawne |
Then why give the encoder 3 stars for A/V, could you just sorta' hear or see it? It's apparent it's a CAM/TS, so they did the best they could with it!:) RT |
@ReadThis Because I've watched it and the cam is 4 and audio 3 but okay. Thawne |
So if this is the result of the writers strike: Better movies without dumb dialog or 'The Message' getting forced dedicated scenes. Im all for it! Do not give inn to the never-had-an-original-thought propagandists |
Same here, as soon as a good copy becomes available I'm on it! I'm a fan of Joel Kinnaman's and I'm looking forward to seeing this! |
Sucker, I'm on this like a fat kid on cake right now tonight. |
Ah yes, fat shaming. Wanna hear gratuitous insults? Visit TGX, never fails. What you say? TGX doesn't post those insults? Correct, but TGX defends those insults hand and nail and CENSORS anyone who has the audacity to stand up for the defenceless. THAT's your TGX. |
