Is the movie woke? I couldn't care less. The thing about the world that actually worries me though is the encroaching fear of each speaking their own mind. More and more users only write their criticism as guests (and the amount of downvotes prove they sort of have a point). I see self-censorship as an indicator of bad times ahead. |
I like opinions, but everybody has to accept that they will be challenged. I'd just like to see people support what they say with solid, replicable, verifiable, primary data. Not reports or media articles, actual research. If opinion isn't based on solid data, it deserves to be challenged as vigorously as possible. |
I open the links you share, but research can be terrible biased, many times it's just another opinion. Searching a bit you can find studies supporting any views you already have. Also, this thing that scares me of self-censorship is rampant among scientists. (you know: Publish or die) |
Well Captain D., unsurprisingly, and with actual respect, I agree with some and disagree with some of that. I PMed you, hope you don't mind, but this isn't a conversation to have in the funny forums my friend |
Funny how, people are dissing on people who enjoyed the original franchise. Calling them names, insulting their intelligence etc. Same people, will be very butthurt if a movie was made about a feminist lesbian played by Donald Trump. Whataboutism goes both ways. Watched first 20 mins of the movie, the visuals are good, story telling is bad. Dont really care about the color of characters, if turtles are green, people can be black. But this is as much a ninja turtle movie as gone with the wind a western movie. For me its a no no, for you, it might be the right movie. |
No, people are not dissing those who enjoyed the original franchise. If they are "dissing" at all, it's the people who cry wolf without even having seen the movie, otherwise they would have known that there is no gay love in this movie. And parroting one another based on absolutely nothing is diss-worthy, quite frankly |
Didn't watch either, did you? Just parrot what you want to hear, right? Be it true or not. |
Hmm, I don't mind change, but this is a little ridiculous. The goal of any change made to a franchise or character within that franchise should be to enrich it in some way. I'm not sure how a gay Splinter enriches the series, since his focus has always been on his adoptive children and his support has always been a safety net for the turtles to come back to. They also took away his calm, wise, and unflappable demeanor to replace it with someone borderline neurotic. As for April, making her chunky and black doesn't seem to add much to the character and definitely makes it less believable that someone so homely would eventually be in front of the camera so much. Simply put, this is a woke-ish Spiderverse impersonation set in the TMNT universe. For what it is, it's fine but it's a far cry from what I expected. |
Splinter isn't gay, you dud.. a simple Google will provide the answer, butt no, you've decided that the word of other idiots too dumb to use a search engine is gospel. You deserve the ridicule |
Crazy how simple minded some people can be. Look up "splinter gay" and you'll see that is not the case. For people who probably try to make fun of others for being "liberal sheep" -- you guys are really living out the phrase. |
No they didn't, they MADE the movie. They didn't ruin it, they at best ruined what you thought the movie could have been, which is obviously something entirely different from what they had in mind. |
Isn't it funny how people so often complain that it's all the same, same plot, same intrigues, same old stuff rehashed. But when they do change things the same people complain that they changed too much, they shouldn't have changed anything at all. Well, the world changes, time changes, even you change. There is no all white world out there, actually never was. Your government isn't all white male, your police force, your army isn't, nothing is, so why should movies be? Finally movies are showing a bit of a society as they are, from north to south, east to west: divers and filled with colourful people of all plumages, young, old, straight, non-straight, from peacocks to grey mouses and bulls to gazelles. |
you described exactly why all of these people make these comments: they are so insecure with themselves and the idea of a world where they aren't automatically in charge and catered to is absolutely terrifying to them. So, they make nasty online comments to self-soothe and hope they find others who are like them... |
I kinda like the design: refreshing and unusual. The whole thing is still a bit childish for my taste but hey it's TMNT ! |
Right? I wasn't really planning on watching it but I saw a trailer and I really dug the animation style, like you said, refreshing and unusual! |
My daughter finally got around to watching this re-boot, then deleted it. I asked why. Splinter is into beastialty and April is black. She dreads the day when Wonder Woman is dressed in pink having a ménage à trois with Poison Ivy and a wolfhound. She is a T.M.N.T. and D.C. fan. For the record my daughter is lesbian and 1 sixth Indigenous Austraian. This is a case of a few people telling the entire planet how they should think. |
why does a piece of kids entertainment translate for you into "Telling the entire planet what to think"? Like, do you actually remember the cartoons from the 80s and 90s? Most of them literally started a toy commericals, wasn't that also corporate indoctrination? The more things change the more they stay the same... |
@SmackYoMama. I gave my daughter my T.M.N.T. VHS\comics\Action figures. My daughter is studying to be an engineer in the R.A.F. One of my sons is transgender and a game designer in southport Q.L.D. Another has severe autism. The other two are hetro. None of them like this movie. T.M.N.T. Mutant Mauling. |
Rose Byrne is a horrible actress. Even Megan Fox in the previous TMNT Live action 2 films is a better actress than Rose is. |
Yet she'll always be doing better in life than you are |
Damn people really deep this stuff, to me it's a just a movie with a new spin on it. Which is refreshing considering we've had the same origin tale what like 5/6 times now ?. Thanks for sharing OP. |
