Just like how the youth of today have been brainwashed that being unfit and fat is somehow empowering and makes you a perfect ten, giggle. |
Ever looked at Insta or Tic? Do these kids look like they think of anything but money, fame and beauty? |
@Guest-1850 dont break their illusion lol, the TV has convinced them to hate everyone already |
literally everyone is on the poster is thin and hot. idiot. |
Some parents try. Read about a dad who was at a pta meeting in DK. He was VERY suprised to hear the PE teacher saying they didn't factor time for students to put on make-up. His daughter was in the 2nd grade 8-9 years old.... |
Remember the old Twilight Zone episode where they considered the pretty blonde to be ugly and gaslighted her to believe it when they revealed themselves and all looked like pigs? I'm guessing this is the "Everyone gets a trophy" updated version. |
Does smell eerily similar. That Twilight Zone episode was one of the more popular ones, so it doesn't surprise me that it sparked a movie. But, who knows, might be worth a gander. |
Eye of the Beholder... The woman was played by Donna Douglas aka Ellie Mae Clampett. Great episode. This sounds similar but I can't imagine it being anything more than a bland Netflix algorithm YA kind of thing. |
It's actually more like The Twilight Zone episode, "Number 12 Looks Just Like You", it seems to me that Scott Westerfield - the author of the books Uglies - ripped off the main premise of the episode, where at 19yo everyone gets forced to become beautiful by choosing one of a few styles of "looks".. |
You're conflating two different TWILIGHT ZONE episodes. One was where an old man required his relatives to wear pig masks all night to receive his inheritance, only for their faces to STAY that way after removing them. The other was where a future society pressures everyone to have beautifying plastic surgery. |
Truly weird sense of beauty. Did the producers miscast the actors on purpose? |
Do their uglies get bumped? Not aimed at my demographic. That generation they are pushing this stuff on is doomed. They will become known as the Lost Generation in history. |
Lost but what is scary that they could be the last, and the scariest part that it is not even their fault... |
UGLIES - This is a stupid movie. The plot of the movie is really bad, so bad we really do need AI to write scripts! Spoilers Ahead. When you are 16 you get DNA surgery to make yourself pretty so that you are no longer part of the 'Uglies' group. The pretty surgery solves mankind's problems as it eliminates jealousy, greed and ultimately war. Why at 16 yrs old? Who knows! They already solved the world's energy needs by planting White Orchids. How that works who knows... There is a group of people that want to stay ugly called 'The Smoke' and they find out that the White Orchids are actually killing the planet so that people will stay in cities and get brainwashed and want to get the Pretty surgery where you don't have to work and you just party all the time because you are pretty. You don't even need money, just looks. So now there is a war... The Smoke vs The Pretty? The smoke is determined to save the planet and destroy the White Orchids. My favorite part of the movie is that they retrofitted an old helicopter that runs on Solar Panels! What looks like a 50 Cal. is a flamethrower! They must have retrofitted that to solar also! They also stole the Hover Board from Back to the Future and if you are a 16 yr old girl you can master it in a couple days a drive it like a spaceship. The 16 yr old girls in the movie are like elite special forces (except ugly). This movie is ridiculous... 5/10. It is filmed decent so it appears it had a nice budget |
thats all i needed to confirm my suspisions. a waste of my broadband i wont bother |
It's missing the word "Bump" in the title or am I thinking of a different movie? |
Haven't heard that phrase in a long time. Bumpin Uglies is an American punk reggae band from Annapolis, Maryland |
It's really all the ones with Plastic Surgery who are really The "Uglies" but just don't know it yet. |
PeakBadass is always the first to hit the Like Button. He's the King of the Like Button. |
It is ok sci fi for young teenagers, adults may find the ethics interesting it seems to say it is better if we were all the same to stop wars, but at such a price if life is so diluted! What is individuality, it is such a rare thing nowadays? |
For people in the comments spewing nonsense, the movie is based off a series of YA novels that came out in 2005, so current-day politics aren't at play as much as you think they are. |
I read those books and thought it was really good story, am eager to watch the movie, but have forgotten most of it. |
Joey King is 25 years old Married Woman... Why not hire an Actual 15-16 years old Actress ? |
Name recognition, experience, previous credits, possible working schedule/hours, etc etc... they've done this forever for the exact same reasons. Nothing new here at all |
I get the idea but this is basically (2013) "The Host" for gen z it's an obvious cash grab |
The only differences from 'ugly' to 'pretty' was yellow eye contacts, hairstyle and clothing. Otherwise zero difference. |
Body positivism, still everybody uses filters and morphers on photos. |
