Ziegler and Nicholson both were great. The movie itself was not for me, probably because the extent of my 'Janet Planet' knowledge is that she was dating/possibly married to Van Morrison for some time and he bestowed the nickname. None of that is in this movie, though. It's just a long, slow look at Janet's relationship with her daughter over the course of time where she has three personal relationships. I'm sure for those with more knowledge and life experience, it's fascinating, but for me, it did not click. Thanks for the upload! |
"Janet Planet" may have a title that doesn’t quite capture its true essence, but make no mistake—it’s a genuine gem of a film. Essentially a "slice of life," the movie is divided into three main sections, each highlighting a different adult who enters Janet's (a captivating Nicholson) and her daughter Lacy's lives during the summer of 1991. Both actors deliver stellar performances. The film emphasizes introspection and emotion, but don’t be fooled—it’s rich with engaging themes. The film unfolds using narrative ellipses, allowing scenes to ebb and flow while avoiding unnecessary background stories. The cinematography is striking, with vivid, framed shots that showcase nature, childhood memories, and close-up faces, particularly Nicholson’s freckled visage. There’s a beauty in these scenes that relies on simplicity and subtlety rather than flamboyant tricks or a cluttered narrative. The score is bountiful, adding a lively and rich layer to the film that complements its understated beauty - especially Noah Vannorstrand's "Unstoppable." |
I thought the head in the bottom, on the cover was Tilda Swinton's face, lol... |
why are children in movies nowadays force cast into roles where they are basically extremely boring grown ups living dreary lives, but 10 years old? |
ahhh, setting current expectations for our workforce. Childhood dies quicker by the second; the faster a person can transition into holding a steady 9-5 the better! |
I also don't agree with children being in movies. Many reasons. I will say I didn't care for this mainly because all the reviews were way up there. Those are fake but I do appreciate the older woman not taking her shirt off like she did in the beginning of Blonde. Please don't give me another strike because I said nothing bad here. My last comment was 'ugly lesbians" and I got a warning. I like this site! |
I don't think it's a problem for children to be in movies. What is true is that child actors exposed to Hollywood culture often wind up with substance abuse issues. It is also not unusual for them to exhibit emotionally and mentally unbalanced personalities. This is not universally true, but a common trend. |
Brrzrrkrr talking his own made-up bollocks yet again. In other news, the torrent was 5 stars and the A/V was excellent thanks. |
What happened to writers actually thinking about the future. Everything is set back in the day! |
