In recent years, there has been a surge in films featuring actresses of a “certain age” exploring settings like book clubs, cruises, and now summer camps. "Summer Camp" is a comedy that delivers puckishly unfunny and uninspired humor typical of its formulaic genre. The problem is not with the actors, it’s the quality of the bland scripts. It’s also the overuse of particular actors notably Jane Fonda, Dianne Keaton, etc.…. The characterizations overlap and provide little differentiation among these types of films - it doesn’t help Keaton has the same long hair, glasses and berets ( is this written in her contract? ). The story follows three friends ( Bates, Keaton, Woodard) who attend summer camp together as children and continue the tradition into adulthood, each grappling with personal issues. The movie lacks innovative themes and authentic humor, delivering more "funny ha ha" moments than genuine LOLs. |
It is merely the continuation of a Hollywood tradition of putting older actors into bad movies. See: Bucket List, Space Cowboys, Somethings Gotta Give, 5 Flights Up, Grudge Match, And So It Goes, Expendables 4, Going in Style, Last Vegas etc. The female cast is only there to make you, specifically, angry. |
This is the story about Alyson Flannagan going back to Band Camp all grown up, right? That's why Eugene Levy is in it? Flute? |
When I saw the thumbnail of the poster in the New Movies column on the left, I thought the blonde haired lady on the left was Wayne from Wayne's World. |
You mean Diane Keaton jaxe? I thought you were a film afficionado? |
@darcman. The review by IGotYourDogMr is way more intelligent and humorous (along with most other comments posted here) than the movie itself. |
So keaton and bates are almost 80. So summer camp for them would have been in the 1950's....MAYBE early 1960's. The chances of these 3 ...well...ONE of them....being in the same sleep away summer camp together as friends during the 1950's is slim to none.,,,,if you know what I mean |
Thats BS. You can clearly find black kids at white schools back then. Thats a huge plot point of Stephen King's It. |
maybe not where your from.. schools were not segregated till the mid to late 70s before that blacks whet to there schools and whites went to theres ... |
And women complain their are not enough good roles for women over 40 in Hollywood. Shees! |
It's a summer camp with cabins. Where's the horror cause this sound like a true snooze fest? |
Figured out the horror. Three has-beens in a movie wearing CHEAP TACKY wigs. |
@retell I wil tell you the same thing that I always say to puffs like you...get thicker skin and quit whining. I am really sorry I offended you buttercup. |
