"...16th century England..." - black guy playing an abbot. Oh dear, yet more of the usual BS we've come to expect from just about every single TV show these days... |
... and yet they did have ships in the 16th century to transport people between continents, say between Africa and Europe. Or you walk it if you really really want to. |
You should check a gentleman in Moscow where one of the comrades and ex-nobility associate is black, political correctness went too far. |
BS yes. It immediately breaks the believability and immersion of the show. Ripping you out of it unfortunately |
According to Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People, the abbot of St. Peter's and St. Paul's at Canterbury was a man of African race (vir natione Afir). His name was Hadrian and he died in 709. |
There have been three black popes and the history of black abbots in England goes back to Adrian of Canterbury (abbot of Saint Peter's and Saint Paul's in Canterbury) in the late 7th/early 9th century. So... no BS. Sorry. |
Roksteadee; it is not racism when someone states the obvious people from Africa started in the West as slaves, not pops and kings, all current works either movies, series or else have to include a black, gay or jew in a leading role, you need to check your history again you will be amazed |
Yep all these shows are like that now. And you'll be called racist if you complain. |
@ Roksteadee So your ad hominem is backed by a link to an obscure and argumentable page that makes you feel erudite? |
If there is one thing unfathomable it's how stupid nimwits like Quest 2772 are.... Uneducated losers who never read one single decent book in their lives teaching others about history..... That facepalm is about your WHOLE LIFE, you poor pathetic creature. |
The trailer looks great and let's hope Sean Bean doesn't die in the first episode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDGNwIM0r9g |
Let's hope...but if you read your history the character he is playing doesn't have a happy ending. I imagine not in the first episode though. |
@nhubi Seems like the producers/directors didn't read their history. Or else, they wouldn't be casting someone of African descent as an abbot in 16th century England. |
For historical reference, Adrian (or Hadrian) of Canterbury, abbott - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_of_Canterbury |
He was a Berber, not a black African - read your own link. He was also a completely different person, living hundreds of years earlier. You can tell because he had a different name (duh). This show is based on a series of novels, and in them the Abbott Fabian character is white. Why did Disney change him to black? |
This looks very interesting. Like a Name of the Rose mystery perhaps? Always enjoyed period pieces such as in those. |
The Name Of The Rose by another name. And more diverse and inclusive than necessary. |
Paul Kaye? i love that actor, thanks uploader! very interesting premise! |
To clarify any misconception regarding the black abbot, I have calculated their probable number within that period and religion: Number of black abbots = number of black people in England x frequency of free black people in England/ 2 (cuz' is a male) x frequency of black people converted to that religion x frequency of black people in upper ranks of that religion x frequency of black ranking people that reached the abbotship phase = 1 That's the abbot character you are watching. Simple! |
Read the description, was about to dl and then saw the screenshot. No way, enough. And to all the idiots talking about the THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of black people in the middle ages in Europe, you are full of shit. I'd rather watch anything made before 2005, when people were still logical |
The only thing full of isht is your head. Try to read something more complicated than a Qanon flyer once in a while. I suggest you start with childrens books. My 5 year old niece told me there's a real cool new Miffy series out. I know it's a huge step up for you but try to give it a go anyway. |

I never thought they could make an entire series that revolved around 3 guys sitting around a lake with their butts clenched wondering if that next fart was going to be a wet one yet here we have it. Shard Lake. That lake is so brown it's ridiculous. |
