TBH, I do not really care what the score on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes is before or after watching a movie. I have watched movies that have a high score that I did not like and others with a low score that I loved. I'm not saying that scores are never reliable. I'm just saying that I don't really care what people think. |
Like what you like,, if you were looking forward to this, try Slotherhouse, it's much better than the description. |
I give it a 6.5/10, good movie. Stop mentioning IMDb as a reference, it's a complete joke since Bezos took over. |
Horror movies hardly ever hit more than 5/10 on imdb. Critics just do not like them. I've seen enjoyable horror movies rated around 3, so when it comes to this genre imdb doesn't matter at all. |
Normally I don't review movies, as 1) this really isn't the place for it 2) who cares what I think? 3) I don't want to inadvertently spoil anything and 4) I don't want to offend anyone, but maybe some will find this valuable and maybe it will save some time for those not sure whether it's worth the watch. In short: I found this one particularly lame/boring (and I have a lot of tolerance for bad movies or unfrightening/undisturbing horrors). It's got some production value, but the acting is just passable at most from the main characters (the old neighbor actress is atrocious however, and the main actress is mostly good but some lines are delivered really poorly), and it couldn't decide whether to be a family drama or horror and ends up failing at both. I'm all for a fleshed out story/characters in "non drama" movies genres like horror and comedy, it makes the story more compelling if done well (like in The Babadook), but this was like a Hallmark attempt at drama and plot writing. And then when there is little horror, or even suspense/thriller vibes, there is no reason to invest so much in characters/story anyway. I give this a 6/10 and that's being generous and I usually never rate movies lower than a 4 or 5. And yes, there is no nudity or gore if that's what you're looking for. As always, I appreciate the free content! |
I was surprised as to how uninspiring this movie was. The premise seemed to be there but it there was no creativity to the story. Rewatching the original Chucky or even Puppetmaster would be more fun than this. The problem is mostly that these movies forget that they are Horror and not Drama with some horror in it. They spend most of the movie dealing with personal issues, ugh and rely on a few select jump scares here and there to carry almost the entire film. Then in the last 15 minutes you get to see the evil whatebear and that is it. Just fail. |
I'm surprised that Blumhouse didn't announce whether there would be an R rated version, like they did for M3GAN.Thanks for the upload. |
This was a good chance missed for a franchise but the story has so many flaws and it's hard to believe even in fantasy, the movie derails at the end. Why little girls are so effective in horror movies? They were talking about a movie with M3gan? That was really good! |
Really terrible film. It's like they took ideas from the TV series Happy and just made a sh1t version. There also so many dark scenes, you can even see what's going on. Seriously. Half the film is under-exposed scenes with black people. What the hell. |
a9/v9 poor story, barely a decent script, terrible effects, hammy acting. But as its a PG13 I guess it might pass for young people as there is a lot of family orientated stuff. Not the worst and not the best 4/10 overall |
We knew getting into this that this was only batting at 4.7 over on IMDB but this was was worse than we had imagined it would be |
Boring and unscary as you can get except one scene perhaps. Slow pace and plot is thin as all hell. No wonder it didnt last long in cinemas |
Just finished watching this with my partner and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. It isn't a hack and slash bloodfest, instead the story is told gradually through the entire film. It isn't a powerful story, I will agree, but it had it's moments and a twist that once you've seen it, like Sixth Sense did, kinda makes it a view once film, but I'm okay with that. The monsters, when you get to see them, weren't out and out scary, more grotesque like a child would imagine. If you love jump scares, this film probably isn't for you as, whilst there are a couple, the film doesn't revolve around them. Pyper Braun who plays Alice acred her role amazingly, and DeWanda Wise as the stepmother played a very believable part. On the whole I'd give it a definite thumbs up and was a reat movie to spend the evening watching. |
