You had me at Jeff Goldblum. Seen about everything he's been in. But you also had me at jazz, as I love almost anything jazz (have since my teen years). And then you add to that the fact that Goldblum is a huge jazz nerd and one hell of a great jazz pianist himself, and this is a must see for me even if I tend to dislike "adult" or "serious" animation movies/tv shows. Had no idea this was coming out: thanks for the content! |
Thanks, but English subs required for foreign speaking parts, |
Subtitles for English, Finnish, Hebrew, &Spanish are available elsewhere. |
I thought the animation style would be great. And, i was right, it was. There is one scene where Ella Fitzgerald leaves her gig, after she's finished, and goes to another bar to sing and jazz scat (I guess, I am not a huge jazz fan), and that was fun. BUT, the whole movie was BORING, and plain and very simple. This is not a mystery movie, it is a bunch of interviews with people the piano player knew. But, critically, there was no redeeming value in the whole movie. NOT recommended. |
Thanks GalaxyRG! I love quirky, niche movies. They used annoy my ex-wife. I hope they still do. |
Good job divorcing her! No one needlessly has to suffer the poor taste of others lol. |
@ToeCutter Ooh, never say never again. Have you seen "A Scanner Darkly" (2006)? It's a rotoscoped animation with Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey Jr. based on a Pholip K. Dick novella. 7/10 on IMDb. Very sci-fi, noir, paranoic and psychological thriller. |
This lks like it has been shot in real life and passed through a cartoon filter |
What you're referring to is an animation style called rotoscoping, but I don't think that's what they used for this one. |
Elton John must be rolling over in his grave (Michael Palin: "He's not dead yet") :o |
Yea seems interesting, but I could not stand the animation in A Scanner Darkly which seems kinda similar to the style here. |
Well it's pretty obvious Otherwise you'll be having to do bigger reviews Maybe it's even a very good thing |
Btw the last screenshot with a lot of shots of the movie the 1st is Joao Gilberto album, the 7th are Maestro Antonio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim aka Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, https://www.moma.org/calendar/events/981 |
