Pretty good movie actually. Yeah, there are some musical scenes, but overall its a movie with some good acting and some intense scenes, a great plot. Go ahead and watch "the musical". You will enjoy it. |
The director is a ballet dancer by training and ... Natalie Portman's husband, hence the musical/dance aspect to it. She doesn't appear to have any involvement with it, however, at least not explicitly. |
I call these kind of films, dreamy movies. Warm color tone, frequent shots of barren landscapes, soft music throughout, people dancing at every turn yet you never bother to question why. You know youre awake and yet not awake. Bored, but too lazy to turn it off. So much that I was thoroughly convinced at one point Masilda was played by none other than our very own, ever cheerful Peter Stormare in character. Thats the kind of profound effect these films have on me. TNA - avg. |

This is actually pretty good 'If you are going to find work in this town you are going to have to know more people than just me' It is not a 'musical' in that they keep breaking into song and dance like a Bollywood production or Grease And the dance routines for what they are are very well done Paul Mescal is a fine actor who had his break with the fantastic Normal People and was pipped at the post for an Oscar with the excellent Aftersun Oh yeah, and Melissa Barrera is easy on the eye |
I'm sorry but this is a Musical. The Genre clearly says Musical. |
I took it for granted there would be some connection with Bizet's opera Carmen (or Meilhac's libretto) but it is quite thin, almost veiled. The music for some moments sounds like tango. |
Yeah, but so did Mark Knofler sing like an urban toreador on Dire Strait's Making Movies Connect the dots |
Had I asked if there were any TNA in this movie, you would have approved the post. Now I say that a shirtless bloke is not an eyesore either, you delete it. Why so obviously sexist, mod? As if we didn't already know. |
oopsies, Mascal, pescal, one is close to being FISH in spanish and the other the mezcal alcoholic hallucinogenic drink in Mexico |
Well, Melissa Barrera IS actually shirtless as well. That's a double heart thank you for the other part of the audience. |
Got it for my wife. She loves musicals. She liked it. @FlyinLion I personally agree with you %100 |
Yep, why we rarely watch Bollywood movies They make a musical out of anything |
Even if the movie is about a kid dying with cancer Bollywood will make into a musical |
Even Slumdog Millionaire which is a good movie turned into a song and dance routine at the end and totally ruining the movie and leaving us with a tainted memory We will forever bitterly regret not leaving the picture house before it all happened |
WTF has this movie got to do with 'Bollywood'?!? Could you perhaps comment on THIS one? |
Guest-2678 The Bollywoodisation (is that even a word ) of Hollywood is what it has got to do with this movie |
If Bollywoodisation ain't a word it sure as hell should be I tell ya |
Bollywood is a whale compared to the sprat that is Hollywood With Hollywood out on strike the whale is circling readying itself to consume the sprat ... and spit out many more 'musicals' |
So none of you know anything about US movie history? The '30s, '40s, '50s, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly, you name 'em. Bollywood wasn't even born. Where do you think Bollywood got the idea from? |
yes, the car may flip if you pass too hard.. safe driving and all |
