![]() | Thank you GalaxyRG for the upload Thank you Jaxe for the reviews and the humour ;) As for you Guest 3915, the lovely Jaxe just saved you both bandwidth and a nasty case of aching click digit by helpfully homologating reviews! Thanks is in order, not denigration! |
![]() | Guest-3407 killed you, Cyberian. When will people ever learn that public forums are places where the foolhardy come to die? ![]() |
![]() | Only one review on IMDB: "visually pleasing dystopian (if derivative) art-house sci-fi Is it reminiscent of other sci-fi dystopian flicks that came before it? Yes, but so what. Everything in life is a bit derivative or reminiscent of something else. Personally, I enjoyed the casting, the actors and the acting, combined with the cinematography...as an artistic take on the genre. A bit of an art-house indie version of a sci-fi trope if you will, by comparison with big budget studio productions, which sometimes fall short of late by relying on one or two big name actors to carry them. Aside from Iain Glen, I wasn't familiar with the cast, but they not only performed well, but were relatable and won me over. I didn't mind that the script was light on plot and dialog, but the ending felt rushed. I'd rather they'd have taken their time and added 20 minutes or so to the final cut. Still, the imagery was lovely and the main actress both lovely and powerful." Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRvgeNTY660&vl=en 40% on Rotten Tomatoes https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/tides_2021 - A soupy, post-apocalyptic Europudding that needed more action, greater imagination and a star of some magnitude in the leading role... [Tides] is all dark, grim and clammy. - For all its classy craftsmanship, "Tides" just ebbs away. |
![]() | First of all, always a big thank you to TGx, as always the A/V is perfect...10,,,or as rated above 5 stars, and appreciate the time and effort that goes into encoding and getting the movie out to us, the utmost gratitude always, for all the content!. :) Secondly, have to point out that I really appreciate the variety of comments above! Whether they are from Jaxe, Cyberian, LDB (LeftistDirtBag) or a guest (that we need because guests fund the site btw along with the donations). So even if I used to feel the same way about the hiding behind comment, I asked the question to the staff, and now the light shines bright, if you will! ;) Regarding our members takes, even if we have the same or differing opinions, or they are just an analysis or their take on a movie, have a lot of respect for everyone of you who does take the time to write something, even if you dislike something I might even say, at least I know, and your not afraid to share your comments with me! :) I'm no expert writer and if I state an opinion, it's always mine and don't expect everyone to agree with it or not, and my ratings just like yours either for example. I do appreciate getting reviews on the film, for example @kentk9, that was much appreciated may not even have downloaded and watched if not for your assessment and always like what @Jaxe has to say and all of the members, so thanks everyone, and yeah I didn't get paid to write this either, and would thank @LDBag even if we don't see eye to eye on Lifetime movies, it's all good.,,and finally @Cyberian always like hearing your before and after "takes" on movies, as I know it's how you really see it, whether IMDb has reviewed it one way or not by peeps, you will review it "like it is", and appreciate everyone's as Cyberian's honesty! :) This is getting to long, so won't write a review just a rating tonight...because you all beat the horse on it and same with IMDb, and don't really have a "side". Would sadly take comments from what some of you all wrote already...which is really lame for me tbph :) lol Anyway, M=6.5 and hope everyone enjoyed it! :) Best....ReadThis ![]() |
![]() | @Guest-3915 - Why have you not reviewed this film then and are instead hiding behind a guest account, criticizing somebody who is trying to help other people make an informed decision by sharing information on reviews. |
![]() | @Cyberian - Why have you not reviewed this film then instead of taking the time to criticize member who has been here much longer than yourself...hipocrite! He's probably helped more people here than you have so show some respect instead of pandering hoping staff will recognize you and reward you with more reputation points...His review was spot on! |
![]() | @ ReadThis![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Nice commentary. I'm ready for a group-hug. ![]() @ Guest-1294 Actually, it's not uncommon for films produced abroad to have two names; one for the local audience (where the film was shot) and one for the international release. Based on what I've read so far, my hunch is that 'Tides' is the original title, and 'The Colony' is the international release title. |
![]() | Ok, so witch is it? the TIDES or the COLONY???? Can't be both. No one has mentioned this. |
![]() | Howdy peeps! Thanks for sharing the reviews jaxe ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Just finished it and have a few thoughts to share. This is a European production (Swiss / German) which means it lacks the flashy FX and extreme tempo of a made-in-Hollywood film. But that doesn't mean it's all bad. It's just a slow-burner about rebuilding the world after its destruction, with an interesting subplot involving a father-daughter relationship - rather than dramatic explosions every 30 seconds. Some people will find it boring, but if you stick with it for 1 hour and 36 minutes, the ending is both hopeful and touching - and the cinematography, scenery, sets and FX are all quite good. If you use your imagination, there's even a hint of Mad Max in the costumes and sets. Cut to the chase: Die-hard science-fiction geeks will probably enjoy this, but if you were hoping for a non-stop action flick (similar to The Tomorrow War) you'll wanna pass on this one. A/V is clean and clear. Rating the movie 7/10. Thanks, GalaxyRG. 🥂 EDIT: This new IMDb review by supermellowcali sums up my feelings on this film nicely: An interesting take on humanity's future that's a different kind of story if not any huge revelation. It's well acted and directed, and not without tension but has more thought than action. A central question seems to be, How should the next evolution of humankind be built? |
