Can I ask which player you are using, is it capable of 1080p at 50fps (this BBC iPlayer format)? Some players (many 'smart tvs' playing off USB for example) are quite limited in the types of media they support.
Bear in mind that untouched iPlayer rips like this are 50fps, perhaps your 'external player' does not properly support 1080p at 50fps. In which case you could reencode it to 25fps yourself, look for a reencoded version, or get the 720p vers...
