| Received email: Hello Sailor420, Subtitle was disabled by "mrtinkles" Reason for disabling: Please refer to previous comments regarding single line adaptions, and conformance to BBC standards. Thanks. ====================================== So they would rather have double (sometimes triple) lines instead of a cleaned SINGLE line sub? Meantime guys they'll be just for me. In case you haven't seen some of my work, here is screenshots of the sub "mrtinkles" disabled: Screenshots: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) https://ibb.co/album/D5JQKF I did write a message to "mrtinkles": --------------------------------------------------------------- Per what I see in "Section 3.3 - Number of lines" https://www.bbc.co.uk/accessibility/forproducts/guides/subtitles/#PRESENTATION When deciding between ONE LONG LINE or two short ones, consider line breaks, number of words, pace of speech and the image. Please direct me to where it states long single lines cannot be used? Regards, Sailor420 --------------------------------------------------------------- @TG Members: Would like your input? The main reason I do this is to keep the text out the video image as much as possible. I even lower the lines as close to the bottom as possible. Plus I'm cleaning up mistakes while doing this. | As a sub maker/fixer/syncer....i can see where both of you are coming from... There are no set rules saying you cannot use single line subs...or any set rules for anything...just a set of tested guidelines for a uniform set of standards that USERS are used to and find easiest to read whilst impacting the movie/tv show the least... You should always use more than one line, no matter how short the speach, if more than one person is speaking onscreen as this helps those with impaired hearing distinguish who is saying what a hell of a lot easier than one line. Plus if you use very long lines then sometimes people will miss words due to eye movement from one side to the other, whereas if using multiple lines all the words onscreen are in "block formation" so you can read DOWN a lot quicker as you can see all the words on all the lines in one block in your field of view. Things like those above are whats taken into consideration when deciding the "standards" for use etc. Personally i think it's a bit harsh for your subs to be removed as they were an option for peeps and peeps should be able to choose whats best for them. | |

| @B4ND1T69 I understand what you are saying, most of dialog is very short in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, most of what I captured were of the longer dialogs. With regards to when more than one person/ape is speaking onscreen. You know as well as I do that's what the "hyphens" are for. I just finished "Island, The (2005) [10bit]" ============================================ unedited examples found via regex scan, "<i>-h" (14 hits in 1 file): ====================================================================== 00:05:32,827 --> 00:05:34,829 ; <i>- That's right, me. - Six months.</i> 00:05:58,124 --> 00:06:01,711 ;should't even have a hyphens <i>- Just moments before his final departure to The Island...</i> 00:31:01,314 --> 00:31:04,609 <i>- And start the spin. - And now let the spin begin.</i> Also do FIND <i> & </i> across TWO hyphens with regex "^-h<i>(.*)$R-h(.*)</i>$" This is the RESULTS of FIRST TWO steps, visual fix using regex: ========================================================== 00:05:32,827 --> 00:05:34,829 - That's right, me. - Six months. 00:05:58,124 --> 00:06:01,711 <i>Just moments before his final departure to The Island...</i> 00:31:01,314 --> 00:31:04,609 - And start the spin. - <i>And now let the spin begin.</i> This is the SECOND & FINAL step, auto fix using regex: ======================================================= 00:05:32,827 --> 00:05:34,829 ; - That's right, me. - Six months. 00:05:58,124 --> 00:06:01,711 <font color="#32D838"><i>Just moments before his final departure to The Island...</i></font> 00:31:01,105 --> 00:31:04,609 - And start the spin. - <font color="#32D838"><i>And now let the spin begin.</i></font> I even take care to use TWO(2) spaces in front of the second hyphen for two character dialogss. Not going to create anymore screenshots, ie "Island, The (2005) [10bit]". But here are past examples of some of my best work, 99% ERROR FREE: . Screenshots: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) [10bit] https://ibb.co/album/D5JQKF . Screenshots: Garfield Movie, The (2024) [10bit] https://ibb.co/album/WxHprG . Screenshots: Beverly Hills Cop (2024) Axel F [10bit] https://ibb.co/album/R7BfMX . Screenshots: Black Mass (2015) [10bit] https://ibb.co/album/gLKHG9 . Screenshots: Sight (2023) https://ibb.co/album/qJsJ11 . Screenshots: Ezra (2023) [10bit] https://ibb.co/album/BH5N56 . Screenshots: Mad Max (2024) Furiosa [10bit] https://ibb.co/album/gMCMnv . Screenshots: Edge of Tomorrow (2014) [10bit BB] https://ibb.co/album/17nWDn . So I guess you'll see less of my subs. I myself like subs taking up less space, I even lower the line closer to the bottom when they reside within the video. I'm sure you seen me make comments about liking DAR of 16:9 when VAR is btwn 2.40's Hope that's clear as Mud 2012 (good movie0 Cheers, S420 Last edited by Sailor420 on 2024-07-10 06:42:51 | |
