 | We are not going to go into the choice of the actress, especially in the controversy. Adele James does not fit into a series that simply does not work due to lack of means and lack of aesthetic proposals. It is not that you need a billion dollars to make a Cleopatra as it deserves, but in the absence of those 999 million, you must put imagination, staging, interpretation, editing and, above all, a strong vision to try to compensate for the shortcomings and not to render a poor production that certainly doesn’t live up to the theme. |

| We have enough Egyptian art, (statues - some of them painted, bas-reliefs - many of them also painted, sarcophagus lids, etc.,) and actual mummified remains to KNOW that the Egyptian people, (at least the upper classes,) were NOT Black. Even if the Ptolemies mixed with Egyptians, (and it is likely there was at least SOME admixture over the centuries,) they would certainly have been upper class Egyptians and, thus not Black. We know what today's non-Arabized Egyptians (the Copts) look like and it ain't Black, either. Any so-called "dispute" over Cleopatra's appearance and the possibility of her being at all Black is politically-motivated, revisionist twaddle. |

 | None of this shocks me. This is not the first time a Hollywood "Documentary series" has adjusted the historical narrative just to sell a point in a tv show. This is a running trend for American produced shows. Remember Ancient Aliens? where they basically attributed all the achievements of Ancient civilisations down to "Aliens did it". Or what about Finding Hitler, when they said no!, hitler didn't die in a bunker in 1945 you silly goose! he fled to Argentina. The "History£ Channel have a myriad of shows that so no no, all the experts with decades of experience are wrong but let us tell you in 4 one hour long epsidoe's why we're right. This show, and the MANY shows like it, do a disservice to history in exchange for a quick opportunity at ratings or in cases such as Cleopatra, cultural appropriation in the name of Afrocentrism.
