How did I never hear of this film? This was fantastic: well acted, well written, well directed, compelling story...hidden gem for sure. |
Blew my mind when first saw this as a teen in '83. No question Penn is a great acting talent. His political activism, otoh, hilariously wrongheaded and misinformed. |
I notice this got lumped in with the other two 'bad boys' collection. |
Saw this "back in the day" - was not older than the boys in the film. Still remember to this day the pillow case scene. Funny thing is, I did not remember the name of the movie, the actors - nothing. A complete blur, all those years, however, the feeling was there, somewhere in my brain, or in my heart. I have no words to describe how wonderful this particular gem is. Thank you so much for this. |
Lame, my brain registered the wording as if it was the new THE BOYS episode. |
But were they 'bad boys' for life.. or released after a few years on good behavior. |
I just looked up the director's other works, and it always puzzles me when I watch a real good film like this from the past that I missed back in the day, when checking for other films of theirs, but see nothing but long list of TV movies? Like, what, did they majorly piss off some studio head or something? Or was their direction of a W.A.S.P. video what led to their immediate decline thereafter, jajaha? Inquiring minds want to know!!! But to the technical side, I'm very impressed with the video quality from a film of this age. It's really amazing to me of what digital remastering can do better and better each year. I wish it had a better soundtrack contemporary to what was popular at the time, but I guess if there's budgetary constraints that's the first thing out the window. Better I suppose that with some popular films where I remember great soundtracks, but the right must expire, for in those good song's places there's generic elevator-type 80s-sounding tracks instead. p.s. The scene, too, with the pop cans, fucking intense, man! I was on the edge of my seat and sweating!! |
