PSA: Not for kids. Unless you want to traumatize them. This is a masterpiece, and great movie, but one that is absolutely devastating to watch. One of the few movies I'll probably never watch again in my life because of it. War is garbage, and only brings suffering to everyone involved. |
one of the best anime movies ever made , AND sadly it kinda is a must watch due 2 ongoing wars happening right now |
One of the best Studio Ghibli anime films, ever. One of the best anime films, ever, really. Such a touching story, and beautifully crafted and exhibited. Isao Takahata & Hayao Miyazaki really knocked it out of the park on this film, and it was so personal to all who made it. Definitely a must watch piece of cinema if you have never seen it, but it'll be heartbreaking all the same. Thank you uploader for the conversion & upload of this great film! |
This is, as previously noted in other posts A Masterpiece, I am a fairly worldly adult male, of 70 years on this planet,I have seen life and more than a few movies, I have lived in poverty and also lived very comfortably, so I have not always had it easy enough to make me soft, however this movie made me cry like a baby, it felt at times as though a knife was being slowly forced into my heart, I had to stop watching for periods of time as it was too painful to continue, yes this kids cartoon did that to me. I watched it all the way through, as I felt I had to honour the author and the subject matter.I watched this film about a year ago,I want to watch it again for the little lessons you miss when you watch a great movie or read a wonderfully moving book, I am still a bit too afraid, but I will watch it, as the lessons, and story it contains are precious and remind us of our most redeeming feature LOVE. PS, no I am not some religious nut, or weepy cry baby, just try this movie then judge me and see for yourself. |
Gratitude for making Grave of the Fireflies available again. I don't see any included extras from the DVD version which included an interview with the author. Other editions may have that. |
One of the best Ghibli movies (and that's saying something!) but also a one time watch. Devastating... |
Absolutely heartbreaking. Watching one child's suffering broke us, there's thousands, hundreds of thousands of children going through unimaginable suffering in Gaza right now. That's how barbaric and inhumane this all is. |
Must watch for anyone who is "feeling happy". Guaranteed to make you sad |
"はだしのゲン" (Hadashi no Gen) is unpopular with the Japanese right and gets banned from time-to-time locally because it was written by an atomic bomb survivor (hibakusha) and raises uncomfortable issues about militarism and the government's role in the Pacific War. It is more of a first-person musing on human behavior. |
Incomparable. Take any WW2 movies and those with atomic explosions and aftermath, BFG is eons ahead. One of the best depictions of ground zero I have ever seen. No wonder they make it using anime/animation as it can show things not possible in reality. Especially the human body melting scenes. Precise. |
I have no idea what that Cyrillic garbage has to do with the name of this movie. The correct name is "火垂るの墓" (Hotaru no Haka). When my daughter was growing up, it was shown in her Japanese elementary school just before summer vacation every year. The Japanese language version is not at all the same as the English. |
