| Way to be misogynistically reductive to Miss Stone dismissing her agency, 1551, and also to similarly misunderstand her character. Stone is a top adult actor in the peak of her career, she chose that character fully knowing what it entailed and the role appealed to her, she was not coerced nor traumatized by it. |

 | “Kinds of Kindness” is 3 movies wrapped up into one ( a triptych ). There is one thematic thread holding them together – sort of like an anthology. Each story has a distinct narrative, but they all kind of live in the same universe. The first story delves into an unconventional father-son relationship, while the second explores the notions of safety within marriage and home ( this is the most trippy of the 3 ). The third story centers around the security derived from faith. Like his other films, director Yorgos' oscillates between awkwardness, discomfort, tragedy, and humor. Emma Stone, particularly in story 2, demonstrates her skill at transitioning seamlessly from serious to wildly unpredictable. There are moments where you feel she is on the verge of breaking character and bursting into laughter. Yorgos remains committed to the use of natural light, which lends a soft and warm quality to the characters. Additionally, he employs wide-angle shots with towering buildings in the background, conveying a sense of the characters being engulfed by their surroundings. His use of low shot closeups further enhances the characters' vulnerability ( Stone ) or dominance ( a very slimmed down Plemmons ) within the narrative. The movie makes sense as a anthology, it also provides the viewer the ability to digest the narrative in bite size pieces - like Stone's character plating body parts…… |
