Based on a true story of James "Whitey" Bulger, an Irish Mob godfather and a FBI informant who had a "secret trading" deal with his brother, William "Billy" Bulger, a state senator and a Boston public figure, and John Connolly, an FBI agent. They planned to take down theft Italian mob and mafia in Boston, which went awry and things turned massively violent. When the credence for each other began fading out, drug dealing, murders, and extortion started to rise, and forced the FBI's Boston office to confirm that Whitey Bulger was one of the most notorious criminals in US history and also one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List criminals.

avatarThis is the only movie to date where Depp actually acted instead of just playing himself/a version of himself (well, in Minamata he almost got there too). It's good just for that alone, but it's a great movie overall as well.

I've seen 90% of his stuff, some many times (still love From Hell), but I just liked how the roles he got were made for him, because he always played himself. It was always watching Depp play Depp.

avatarMost of those are just ok imo, &, again, he's just playing himself/versions thereof in all of those. Black Mass was the first time I actually saw him disappear into a role (the makeup helped) & I was surprised. Anyway, not going to argue & just my view. :_:)
