Video 6/Audio 5, not good. Plot says: ...."In 1955, five young Mexican-American caddies" Wrong: There are no such thing as Mexican-Americans. Mexicans are already Americans. They live in The American continent. In fact, ancient Mexicans lived there long before the U.S. was a country. It´s like saying: American-American. Makes no sense. |
I salute your efforts to completely miss the point of the label. |
you should watch the movie, in one moment dude said "I thought your team was Americans, not Mexicans" |
My 95 year old father in law was an avid golfer in his younger days and I promised him to get the movie but will also wait for a better copy !! |
seems Dennis Quaid is making a good living outside the mainstream in low budget pseudo Lifetime quasi Christian feel good movies! |
'self-published book' Does that mean that no self-respecting publishing house would print it |
@Guest-8172: Again, the term is "nationality" and that is derived from one's nation of citizenship. The United States of America is the ONLY nation to include "America" in it's name and it's people have been known as "Americans" worldwide since the nation's inception. "Nationality" has nothing to do with the continent on which a nation sits, thus ONLY citizens of the United States of American are "Americans". Central America is a REGION of North America and not a separate entity. I agree that Geography and History are poorly taught these days. Unfortunately for your specious & fallacious argument, I was taught both long before that was the case and would wager that my grasp of these subjects exceeds yours as do, apparently, my reasoning skills. |
"Americans" (I´m being sarcastic) think they´re the only Americans in the world. Same as saying that Planet Earth is the only planet in the whole universe. Pure ego. P.S. I am an American also. |
> it's people have been known as "Americans" worldwide since the nation's inception. only by themself |
@Guest-9199: The word "American" is properly only used to refer to citizens of the United States of America: the term is "nationality". In proper usage, nationality of origin can be added as a hyphenate prefix to nationality of citizenship, hence "Mexican-American". The continent you refer to would be "North America," as opposed to "South America," which is a separate continent still containing "America" in it's name. Continent of origin is only used as a hyphenate prefix when used as a greater generality, ( "European-American" to refer to White Americans in general,) or in cases where national origin is unknown but continental origin is known (most usages of "African-American" ). Mexicans are NOT Americans but they can become Americans (Hence "Mexican-Americans" ). Citizens of Estados Unidos Mexicanos are Mexicans. Now that the "teach-a-Liberal-the-facts" moment is over, on to the movie: Dennis Quaid is usually worth watching but, c'mon, is there really any reason to watch a movie about golf??? I mean, it's GOLF!?! |
Guest-3457, You are incorrect. The term is U.S. citizens,. The U.S. belongs to America, therefore its names contains "of America". Mexico is in North America, too. Central America begins from Guatemala and below it. Geography and History are 2 of the worst taught classes in the U.S. .....of America. |
Are yall gonna comment about the movie quality or are you going to continue debating the fine colloquism of the American language? |
