IMHO this is under-rated on IMDb. Pacino plays one hell of role in this flick, pretty bold choice. In some ways similar to "Serpico", but dealing with the seedy underworld of S&M. Another great one from William Friedkin. This 10bit encode is definitely a big step-up from Galaxie's Thanks for the upgrade ... 👌 👍 |
Quality is EXCELLENT, it's a good as a "Criterion REMASTERED" encode. Almost done with SINGLE LINE subtitle, will post when completed. |
Subtitle: https://subscene.com/subtitles/cruising/english/3255023 Snapshots: Cruising (1980) [10bit] https://ibb.co/album/zT3X2m Sub revised with my newest/latest SINGLE LINE scripts |
One of the best classics out there. Set in old NYC in the meatpacking district. With a special appearance by Ed O'Neil . A must watch THANKS uploader |
Subtitle not downloading. Says "forbidden" on the subscene response on attempts. |
A genuine masterclass masterpiece that was panned and boycotted by gay activists when the movie was released then. Probably reel cutting too close to reality of the sub culture. |
Don't sleep on this! Interesting, well directed, well acted, and just a solid movie. And a must watch if you're a Pacino fan. |
Because it's actually good and not some modern gay cult crap that seeks to normalize and seek validation for mental illness or attention seeking. |
I'm glad that it shows how these people really are and that their lifestyle is truly degenerate and highly unhealthy |
Watched. Cruising is about the influence of cultural norms on sexuality. Cruising is a glimpse into a particular time and era. It highlights one aspect of the gay culture in the 1980s. The early 80’s ushered in several situational topical films that raised questions regarding societal issues. Looking for Mr. Goodbar was another type of film during this time. There was a rawness to these films, an honesty that many viewers resisted. Opponents of the film felt it perpetuated stereotypes about the gay culture. It is essential to remember there is invariably some truth in stereotypes. The director was clever to use an elliptical style narrative, it raises several questions and provokes curiosity. |
"The Bag Murders" and the "Son Of Sam " killings both happened roughly during the same period, 1976 to 77. NYC was a "Hot Mess" back then and was almost insolvent. IMO both cases remained unsolved. There was very compelling evidence that Berkowitz didn't act alone. Berkowitz stated from the time of his initial capture that he was a part of a cult. Maurice P. Terry Sr. wrote a book which I've read four times, The Ultimate Evil 1987 which pretty much states NYPD suppressed evidence as well as information, in order to close the case, on orders from the top brass and possibly pressure from the mayor's office. It was a tense situation back then. The City was on the verge of chaos, panic had spread all over the city. I remember my Dad and me working in shifts, picking my Mom up from work for an entire year. We didn't know he was only targeting Caucasian women at the time, otherwise my dad wouldn't have switched his work schedule, had he have known. Ironically (again you can't make this up) I wound up working with one of the 2 living survivors, Robert Violante at the main post office Cadman plaza,in Brooklyn. Robert who was legally blind in one eye, worked as a custodian during my time there as was one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I still keep in contact with a former cooleague who still works for the post office, and a couple of years ago I asked abt Robert, he said that he had retired years back, but he touches base with him from time to time. All this to say is when I watch this film, I remember how the city was back then, it was in a perpetual state of fear, it's gotten better over the years since, but not by much. |
William Friedkin based some elements of this film on an actual case the" Bag murders" which took place over a 2yr period between 1975 and77. I'm from NYC, I remember it well. During the opening sequence you see the body parts in black plastic garbage bags being pulled out of the river (The Hudson ) that was real. The case to this day remains unsolved. Ironically, ( and you can't make this up ) Paul Bateson who actually played the radiology technician in Friedkin's The Exorcist" was the prime suspect and was convicted of second-degree murder of a entertainment journalist, but denied the serial killings known as the "Bag murders" He also was a part of the Gay BSDM leather culture, which is shown prominently in the film. Totally surreal. |
