What on earth have they done? I've been a lifelong fan of Doctor Who from way back in the Hartnell days right the way through to Jody and for the most part, really enjoyed them. Every Doctor has had to endure odd, zany and comical episodes once in a while, and sure there have been dreadful episodes before, either due to lack of budget, awful script, wobbly sets, but nothing compared to this episode. I have no problems with who they have no problems with Ncuti Gatwa taking on the role of the latest incarnation, I reckon he has the potential to make a great Doctor given the time to develop it and good scripts. But this episode in my opinion just wasn't Doctor Who at all, other than the Tardis and the Sonic Screwdriver being present (I have to say I do like the new look of the Sonic; considering it looks like an oversized electronic car key I hope they don't miss the chance to use it to lock the Tardis with a couple of beeps and the Tardis light flashing). But whoever wrote the script and whoever approved it need to be sacked. The idea of a race of goblins causing bad luck and stealing children to eat could have been a good story, they don't have to be an alien race, the Doctor has encountered other races on earth before, and these tales to exist in folklore. But singing goblins in a rickety flying galleon in the clouds?!?!? And I felt sorry for Ncuti, he has to follow the script and the direction he is given. The role he was given wasn't tat of a Timelord, but someone running around. I don't believe this has anything to do with Disney+ getting involved, and with Russell coming back I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will be just a one off bad episode. |
my friend who watched these with me back in the day, went through the Jodi first season, and said don't put this on our watch list ever again. he skipped the subsequent seasons, but was was willing to watch, and ended up watching most of the Tennent return specials here. And no, he does NOT use the 'W' word |
Same. I've watched every episode and special since 1988. I was a masochist enough to suffer through the last couple of seasons because I like Jodie Whittaker, but The Star Beast from a couple of weeks ago was the final straw. The writing is so unbelievably atrocious and propagandist I will never watch Doctor Who again. |
This episode was filmed in 2022, the 2024 series was filmed in earlier this year, and they are about to break ground on the 2025 series. Disney & Sony (Sony own Bad Wolf) insisted all the episodes be filmed well ahead of air dates. The leaked scripts are out there. It gets bad. |
I've been keeping my fingers crossed for three years. It is time to let go. Doctor Who is done for the moment. Maybe a decade from now a different studio can pick up the story and make something wonderful you can watch with the kids on a cozy Christmas day. |
Rose Tyler was in The Empty Child - the best Dr Who - EVER Really scary 9.0/10K over on IMDB https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0562996/ |
Billie Piper is unrecognizable now. She went on the same diet as Adel |
the first season with jody was awful, didnt even watch after that and now the Dr. is suppose to be gay, that was it for me. the show is dead to me.. |
vampyreangelus Doctor always was bisexual, he was in love with Master and Jack Harkness, Jack who literally fk everything that moving through all the time. |
Actually it was a great lead into the new season. Started a bit rough, but finished very nicely. My hat off to the uploader for providing a great episode. |
Sigh... it makes me sad to see what Dr Who has become. I grew up during Pertwee/Baker when although cheap, the storyline was good and it was SciFi. When it booted back up in 2005, it was mediocre at best. I had high hopes for Capaldi, but sonic sunglasses and riding on a tank playing guitar? it was just downhill from then with some very lazy writing. This was the worst yet. Seems like they're less about SciFi stories and more about meeting a woke-quota, and having this just conveniently happen rather than write a good reason for it. Like having "just" enough dimensional energy left in the area to hit the TARDIS with a mallet and make two of them. FFS. |
Saying the doctor has to meet a woke quota, just tell all of us that you never watched the show. Or maybe you were there and never understood the stories, specially the old one that were better written but said the same. It's a shame you grow up never understanding what you were watching. Hope it gets better. |
RTD has stated he wants top move the show to Fantasy instead of SciFi. |
Probably the best idea in a whole decade when it comes to this show. |

As for being in love with the Master and that wanker Jack you are so bloody wrong. |
Imagine saying you are a fan of Doctor Who, but also being homophobe and racist? It seems you never understood Doctor Who. |
Nothing to do with race or sex. The acting is bad, the scripts even worse. And RTD is ridiculous (can't have a bad guy in a "wheel chair." So because someone is disabled they must be good?) |
I've seen every episode (Classic and new) at least twice. I don't mind the direction RTD (the showrunner) is taking the series. This was a fun episode and the specials have opened the door to a new handle on the Whoniverse. My friends loved it too. We're all straight men and women before you ask. Go back to your cave trolls! |
So many Bu Hu "fans", and not actual Dr Who fans up in here. Bet most of you never watched anything before Tennant, let alone the classic episodes. |
You are entirely correct, I don't understand why homophobes pretend to be fans when they don't understand the show. Even the classic episodes gave you the code of The Doctor and some of them just decide to undermine that message and just be full of hate, just like Daleks. That's really sad. |
You only have to go back to 2005 to find the scariest Doctor Who episode - The Empty Child Right up there with ' The Cyberman ' and ' The Daleks ' at their peak Dr Who can and has been really good So we keep watching wishing for return to the halycon days only to be let down again and again |
