The band was formed in late 1969 by vocalist Jess Roden, following his departure from The Alan Bown Set. In general, the group is connected by its roots with Led Zeppelin themselves. After all, Kevyn Gammond, Paul Lockey and John Pasternak took part in the first group of Robert Plant and John Bonham - Band of Joy. Bronco were signed to Island Records and released two albums, Country Home and Ace of Sunlight. Roden left the band in mid-1972 to begin a solo career, with guitarist Robbie Blunt soon following. The remaining members of the band recruited Paul Lockey on vocals and Dan Fone on guitar and released a final album, Smoking Mixture, this time with Polydor Records. Robbie Blunt later played in Silverhead, Broken Glass, Stan Webb's Chicken Shack, Jeff Healey, and Robert Plant from 1982 to 1985. Most recently, Bronco's "Time Slips Away" was included on the Island Records compilation "Meet On The Ledge", released as part of the company's 50th anniversary in 2009.
