Golda Meir, born in the Ukraine. Was welcomed into Palestine with open arms. Is about all I can say without mods delet my comments. |
Yeah, guess people have problem with the people of Israel surviving in the diaspora, and "welcomed" is a understatement, the Arab immigration latterly pushed out the natives out their lands. Even Gaza was Jewish majority few centuries ago, now all Arabic population. |
In my mind I wouldn't cast Helen Mirren for the rol, yet, thumbnails show I'm probably wrong. |
I wonder how many cigarettes were consumed while making this movie |
Golda lived an interesting life, during a complex historical period. I hope the movie focuses on the Yom Kippur War, rather than something less inherently dramatic, such as her childhood. |
for a second i thought the woman in the poster was Bathilda Bagshot in Harry Potter 🧐 🧐 🧐 |
Going by The Poster..........they`ve got the looks, Going by her ability, she`ll get the person ......... |
Golda Meir is one of those characters that will always stand above others in history, a very strong woman who knew what her position required of hers, and did what was necessary. Her famous quotes "Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us" and "When peace comes we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, but it will be harder for us to forgive them for forcing us to kill their children" tell a lot about the giant she was. I'll watch the movie with great expectations. |
Source Rotten Tomatoes: There is no trace of Helen Mirren in Golda, and that’s the way it ought to be. To say that she becomes the fabled Israeli Prime Minister is a mild understatement, and it should come as no surprise that she delivers a great performance. "Leonard Maltin" Top Critic. |
thanks, but low sound on the 796mb one. now trying the 1.400 version. |
for other Golda shows, there are two productions (not necessarily on torrents) of the play "Golda's Balcony", one with Tovah Feldshuh and one with Valerie Harper. |
Mirren is known for is the Staircase scene in Savage Messiah (1972). |
She was thinking of breaking her leg so she could not do that nude scene. That's how much she didn't want to do it. |
That's a Ken Russell movie I've never seen! I'm grabbing me a copy of it right now. The plot of the film synopsis supports my theory of why 20th century orchestral music is mostly garbage: the guys who would have been the great composers all died in WW1. |
Only roles of note Helen Mirren had been cast in are TCTTHWHL, and of course - Caligola. |
Helen Mirren is a great actress, a legend, but as Golda Meir? That's miscast. I Google for reviews and very first result said the same: "[Mirren's] relentless courage and self-assurance have obviously convinced her she can play any role she so desires. True, she can play a lot of them. Aging, dowdy Israeli prime minister Golda Meir is not one of them." |
I think it's a perfect fit. Who else can we expect to see instead, Margot Robbie? |
Interesting, jaxe, but... 1. Why is Mirren wrong in this role? 2. Who, in your opinion, would you have chosen in her place to complete this part? |
