The British band's albums are a collector's item above all for DEEP PURPLE fans, as FANDANGO was founded by bassist Nick Simper. After the collapse of WARHORSE, Simper's next band after DEEP PURPLE, Nick, along with guitarist Pete Parks (Pete Parks), started the DYNAMITE project, which was noted in history with only the only single St. Louis, and even then, released only in Italy. It was only then that Simper and Parke founded FANDANGO, whose drum kit at first sat another ex-WARHORSE member Barney James (Barney James, also ex-RICK WAKEMAN). Later, a new drummer named Ron Penney appeared in the group, and James Proops was taken on as the vocalist. Ron Penny got into the band by accident - Barney James decided to try himself as a vocalist and offered a place behind the drum kit to Ron. FANDANGO was unlucky: they obviously appeared in the wrong place and at the wrong time - England, the second half of the 70s, the height of the punk revolution, which pushed hard rock and heavy metal into the background. The troubles associated with this began immediately after the formation of the composition. The band planned to release the single on Charlie's label, but when everything was ready, the label went bankrupt.
As a result, the band's first album Slipstreaming was released in the United Kingdom by Gull under license from the German company Shark Records! By the way, keyboardist Neil McArthur also took part in the recording of the debut. In Europe, the record did not have any success, but in America the song Independent Man, re-recorded by the local band MARIAN, became a national hit. But - no luck, so no luck! - FANDANGO was not saved by foreign countries either. Shortly after the release of their second album Future Times, which FANDANGO recorded with session drummer Mac Poole (Mac Poole, ex-WARHORSE, GONG), Shark Records ceased to exist, which greatly complicated the existence of the band. The new drummer had to stay with the band because Ron Penny was under contract in Britain and could not work abroad for a long time, and there was no demand for FANDANGO in his homeland. The group never managed to find a suitable company for themselves and, having recorded a single single Just Another Day (and even then not with their own song - Russ Ballard), FANDANGO unfortunately disbanded in 1983. Nick Simper continued his career as a THE GOOD OLD BOYS musician, earning his living by performing in London pubs, until in the late 90s he received an offer to take part in the re-creation of the cult 70s trio QUATERMASS, but eventually accepted from the original line-up in the reunion only drummer Mick Underwood (GILLAN) was involved and the project was called QUATERMASS II. With this group, Simper recorded a good album Long Road. Both FANDANGO discs: Slip-streaming and Future Times were re-released in the 90s on one CD by the British company RPM records, but in 2000 the rights to releases were transferred to another label - Angel Air records, which released the albums separately with the addition of several bonus tracks for each of the discs.
