Whilst I'm not a fan of the Bridgerton stories, it's worth pointing out -- given the hysterical claims of insulting history and so on, that this was never supposed to be a historical re-telling. Queen Charlotte is a prequel story for a quasi-historical fictional universe in which Britain’s aristocracy is multiracial—a fact that prompted a fair amount of confused conversation about “color-blind” casting and adaptations of historical fiction when the first two Bridgerton seasons came out. This is well-established. Polcardo, whilst IMHO taking a racist slant with his comment, is actually far more correct than Jaxe. Bridgerton was always a fantasy universe, and as such, tells tales for its fans that will definitely appeal to those fans. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. The A/V is great though, many thanks to the uploader, and the acting/production are top-notch. But period drama does nothing for me I'm afraid. Thanks again though GalaxyTV |
So I said it was a dream. If it were a white dream about a white Wakanda, what will your answer be? :P |
I'ld say lay off the sleeping pills; they do have side effects. |
Polcy, I'd say it was a dream and fiction. Everything should be open to criticism, but that criticism should be evidence-based and reasoned, not based on personal prejudice. I might also point out that, although I thought your comment was motivated by racism, you were essentially correct, it's a dreamworld. |
This is a quote from the series: " It is fiction inspired by fact. All liberties taken by the author are quite intentional." Quite a succeed I would say: Jaxe is freaking out and about to get his robe and pointed hood on. |
Guess what? When you don't want to see a black Charlotte, you don't watch. Couldn't be easier. When I don't like pecan nuts, I don't buy a pecan pie. But I'm not going to complain that there are pecans in a pie I'm not going to buy anyhow. So why oh why do some of you have to complain every time about movies you're not going to watch anyhow? Not all movies are made specifically for you or ever will be. Know that, accept that and move on and allow others to enjoy what they do like without your unasked for negativity. |
The two younger leads were amazing I binged this in one sitting yesterday. |
Actually have you looked at the picture of queen charlotte who was directly descended from a black branch of the Portuguese royal family, related to Margarita de Castro e Souza, a 15th-century Portuguese noblewoman nine generations removed, whose ancestry traces from the 13th-century ruler Alfonso III and his lover Madragana, whowas a Moor and thus a black African. LEARN YOUR HISTORY YOUNG MAN. LEARN YOUR HISTORY |
Yes, there's some interesting debate on that topic 3172. I'm no historian so can't really add to that, but the one thing all the Bridgerton creators agree on is that this is to history what James Bond is to the British secret service; it's an imaginary universe... nobody's really called "Pussy Galore" |
Conclaves of Greeks descended from the Alexander conquest, still live in Egypt to this day. For example,Rami Malek the actor, is one of them. However Alexander was the catalyst that forever changed the complexion of Egypt followed by the Romans and then the Arabs with Islam. Ancient Egyptians prior To Alexander look Nothing like they do today, a mongrel race, for lack of a better description. |
Loved the first two seasons, but disappointed in Bridgerton S03. Thanks anyway, Galaxy. |
i am not watching this series. i like costume drama from a few ages ago. movies like Pride and Prejudice or series like Downton Abbey. What i like especially is the specific cultural behaviour, accents and dillemas that played in those ages for people in thise countries. nowadays is see more and more series that create alternate realities and cross-pollinate it with some cultural Western era only to satisfy their own lazy writing, casting and directing skills. i am not enticed to watch this because it's empty. it's a waste of time. there's nothing to discover for the audience. |
So, you won't watch the show and therefore have no idea about what it's like, but feel the need to tell a lot of people who have watched it about what you think it's like, because that explains why you won't watch the show? |
BULL! Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was WHITE! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte_of_Mecklenburg-Strelitz These were her parents, do they look remotely African to you? NOPE! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Charles_Louis_Frederick_of_Mecklenburg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Elisabeth_Albertine_of_Saxe-Hildburghausen This series is an insult to Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and to British History. Imagine if a movie was made about Malcolm X or Martin Luther King JR with Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt or George Clooney in the lead roles. The Black community will be boycotting the movies, screaming racism and so on. It never ends. Here's a new Netflix series about Cleopatra with a Black actress playing Cleopatra https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27528139/ It's not even released yet and it has already generated much push back and controversy, it's a BLATANT INSULT to EGYPT and to EGYPTIAN HISTORY https://egyptindependent.com/egyptian-lawyer-sues-netflix-over-queen-cleopatra/ https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/queen-cleopatra-netflix-docuseries-controversy-explained/ https://decider.com/2023/04/30/egyptian-government-says-cleopatra-had-white-skin-in-response-to-netflix-documentary-casting-controversy/ https://movieweb.com/egyptian-governmental-agency-responds-to-netflixs-queen-cleopatra-casting-controversy/ |
Hey buddy, the story is about romance not her race and since she was black in the 1st Bridgerton series it would have been weird to change her race for her story. Queen Charlotte may have been real but this story is fictional. Its never that serious bud. Its entertainment if you don't like it just don't watch |
Nowadays if I see it has a coloured actress, I don't watch it. It is as simple as that. There was a time I would have, but not now. |
It's a long way to Utopia. And longer still as long people can't see beyond colour and feel the need to demonstrate they can't and refuse to ever want. |
As far as Cleopatra the 5th of her name, is concerned, a point can be taken, as she was predominantly Greek from a dynasty set up by Alexander the Great's general, Ptolemy. However, prior to the conquest of Egypt by Alexander, Egypt was indeed Black African. Mass immigration of Arabs only came after Islam. |
Guest-1872 (are you also Guest-3000?), can you recommend any good reference material for what you've said please? It sounds interesting and I'd like to read a bit more. Thank you |
But the balcony is 'terribly white' says Adjoa Andoh while being interviewed for the coronation and spotting the royals there. Well we can't all live in TV fantasy land no matter how much we wish for it. What the hell did you expect. |
