The only Chinese place in the world where there is still a bit of proper democracy and no extreme censorship. |
They've been snubbing opposing voices or anyone who dared supporting reunification. So much for freedom and democracy. |
Heck of a place to have an argument about this, but the reality is that Taiwan has been self-governing since 1949. Arguably longer, since the Republic of China, as a government, has been in continuous existence since 1913. To put that in perspective, in that year, the Czar still ruled Russia, and WWI hadn't started yet |
Agreed, the CCP is a dangerous and frightening institution not unlike other totalitarian chinese dynasties of old. I really hope Taiwan could hold-on and stay apart from China. Hopefully they're not relying on the U.S. to save them |
This isn't the first time Taiwan has shaken off Mainland rule. Under the leadership of Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong a Japan-born half-Chinese, half-Japanese (some people say his mother was Okinawan, not Japanese) the Ming government and remaining armies escaped to Taiwan between 1638 and 1644, and held off the Qing (Manchu) for an additional 65 years. In addition to his generalship on land, Koxinga also built a fleet that defeated and drove off the Dutch and nearly eliminated all Qing naval influence. At the time of his death from malaria in 1662, he had built a fleet to transport a Ming army to Manchuria to attack the Qing invader's homeland and destroy their power base. The Ming were the last Chinese (Han) dynasty to rule China until the CCP takeover and they are highly regarded by the Communists. But, Taiwan is not China. Not all of the island is inhabited by Chinese even today -- about half of the island is occupied by several native groups which are Melanesian and Okinawan -- racially related to Ryukyu, the Northern Philippines, and the ancient Sulu of present-day Indonesia and Cambodia. |
just another chess piece played by us, wonder when they wake up, stop being ukraine |
