Guest-8291: I honestly fail to see the relevance in a condemnation of Islam over and above any other religion. We all have our personal opinions, as an atheist I think religions are pretty much as bad as each other for the abuse of human rights. This happens to be a fictional account of women's reaction to a real event -- a mass rape. Fine, criticize a movie for its' acting, direction, cinematography, a badly told story -- I haven't seen this film, so all of these might be awful, and it might be a lousy movie. I can tell you that the book is exceptional. However, if you don't like the genre, that's personal choice (don't watch the movie). I can't stand most Christmas movies and almost every child actor I've ever seen, but that's my problem and I should say so, it's not a criticism of the movie or the torrent, so I don't comment on "Home Alone". This is another "based on a true story" movie. Religion really only had a minor part to play in the scenario. I would have no problem in believing that Catholics, Jews, Church of England Christians, or anybody else--including atheists--would all be just as capable of such brutality in the right circumstances. Men have been raping women for at least as long as humans could document it in any form. In the 21st century, you'd hope that--as a species--we would have grown out of dismissing women who have been raped as just "angry estrogen", or saying something like, "well other cultures behave worse..." I think I'll stop posting on this page now. Anybody who wants to take me up on anything I've said here, PM me please. |
I've read and listened to the book/audiobook this was based on. Like you Mr. J., I haven't seen the film, but I'd be willing to wager that I know a great deal more about the topic than yourself. Dismissing rape and sexual violence in the manner you have is simply vomit-inducing, but not the first time you've used the same dismissal. I'll be waiting for a good copy to comment on the movie -- you should really do the same -- but the story is engrossing and painful to follow. Well worth engaging with, in whatever medium you choose. Have a bit of humanity Mr. J., it really wouldn't hurt you know. |
He's a softboy chud that doesn't like that he wasn't born in the 1800s when men wore boots and women got the fist when they talked back. |
Reading a book and life experience are two different things. I'm a retired FDNY Haz-Tac Paramedic. I also wonder why your comment can be so much longer than others... like virtually all women other than the 7 STEM capable ones I've met in my life you are sound and fury signifying nothing. |
Guest-1000, you really should get out more babes. If you want a sensible conversation, register and PM me; until then My Lovely, we're just throwing electronic credentials at each other; mine's a PhD in the distribution patterns of microorganisms in primate populations Grow up & have a Great New Year |
Guest-4194 He's a she that hates women pretending to be a man. |
I have even less interest in watching this than the Whitney biopic |
But why did you think anyone would be interested in reading this? |
The problem with these films on female victimization is that they tend to focus solely on Christian and western traditionalism. While some of the criticism is valid, they conspicuously omit the main and very contemporary offender: fundamentalist Islam. I love the irony of Atwood's fangirls protesting abortion in handmaid costumes while defending the cultural practices of immigrants from middle eastern countries that literally treat women like livestock. |
Some valid points but i don't think the contemporary offender matters at all in this situation. Its about the men in an Amish community consistently raping the local women in their sleep until the women get fed up and form a council to decide their fate. But sure, Islam. |
Traditionally all religions have been used as control tools. The more extreme the religion, the greater the control. They all have one thing in common, they dont want you thinking for yourself. |
mfw people arguing about women and shit on a torrent site never change, internet |
This must be the second time I have heard of the Amish people. The first was in the Harrison Ford movie, Witness, |
This film is about the Mennonite community, not the Amish. |
Another angry estrogen movie that wants to paint ALL MEN as rapists and Weinstein. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_Talking_(novel) |
Why generalise, jaxe? The movie doesn't, so why do you, all-the-time? |
Yup, in social studies class we were taught that ALL men are rapists (given half a chance) and that you don't need to lay a finger on a woman to rape her Go figure |
