This movie is already considered a flop at the box office. Only $3.5 million opening. Also the 3 hours and 2 minutes running time it's not helping its box office draw. "...the R-rated “Babylon,” directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt, bombed with $3.5 million from 3,343 venues over the weekend and an estimated $5.3 million through Monday. The film’s especially terrible start, as well as its “C+” CinemaScore from audiences, suggests that even with winter blues, the 3-hour and 9-minute long “Babylon” may not have resonated on the big screen. That’s a problem because the movie cost roughly $80 million to produce and tens of millions more to market, meaning the Oscar hopeful will become a money loser unless business picks up in the coming days. The film international release in late January should help ticket sales. But barring a reversal in fortunes, “Babylon” may be the lone blemish in Paramount’s otherwise unexpectedly stellar year at the box office, with hits ranging from “Top Gun: Maverick” to the creepy thriller “Smile.” " (Source: Variety) |
Sorry Jaxe.... should have been an upvote I hit the nasty by mistake |
Why do (some) peeps complain about long movies It is not like you are being charged twice as much at the box office In fact you are getting twice as much bang for your $bucks$ I would be more peeved if I paid top $dollar$ for a 30 minute movie |
If you want the movie to do well at the box office hit that download button |
Awesome it's this long! Who cares if it's a long movie. I want to see long movies if they don't suck and regardless of this being a "flop" or not, the cast alone tells me it'll certainly be entertaining. Can't wait for a release that's not "slots" riddled....their release are junk. |
Not one post on the quality of the print...that's all I'm looking for here folks !!! |
I don't know how to explain it, but there was a time when people talked about successful films on a daily basis. That included the media. That doesn't happen anymore, nobody talks about a big film production, or the latest film by a famous actor, and above all the importance of the script. I'm not talking about whether it's an economic success or a failure, it's that it was known to be a success or a failure. Today nobody knows that Babylon exists and that it is an economic failure, and it is a great production with great actors. |
ive learned to ignored reviewers and reviews here and elsewhere - Im looking forward to seeing it.... |
Exactly, watch the freaking 2 minute trailer and make up your own mind, reviews these days are no more than politics & activism. |
Pretty positive reviews and a rating of 7.6 with 2k votes on IMDb. Definitely worth a watch when a better version is available. The most a Movie has ever Movie'd You will either love this movie or absolutely hate it. It's unapologetically bombastic and at times obnoxious. With that being said, it's very charming and beautiful thanks to Damien Chazelle's directing. One moment you are watching a grotesque over the top scene that makes you question the movie itself, then the next moment, a beautiful scene accompanied by a stunning score. This movie definitely shows the the vulgar and nasty side of the movie business during this time period, but it also has a lot of heart and shows the beauty of film itself. I think if you love movies and the escapism it provides along with the evolution of the film industry, this movie is for you. Comparison: -A more heartfelt "Boogie Nights" (Source: Ellimof Dec 23, 2022 IMDB) |
I'll personally LOVE it! They had me at Margot Robbie! lol. But seriously it looks awesome! I'm glad it's 3hours long. I like to see a good LONG movie and wish more would catch on to the longer format. When I watch a movie I'm "all-in". If it's a bad movie I simply don't watch them, but if do, longer is better. |
With the size of budget of this movie 2K votes could easily me the cast and the crew |
A judge ruled the Movie companies can be sued for false advertising. No doubt we got a judge that is finally fed up with bad movies and crazy popcorn prices. |
You talking about Ana de Armas appearing in the trailer but not in the movie We should be allowed to sue if the trailer lks good but the movie sucks |
I'm not talking about anything specifically. Just saw the news report and remembered all the movie posters pics I've seen that had nothing in the movie that was shown on the movie poster. Remember Leviathan? The movie poster of the hard suit diver chewed in half? All fake as it never happened in the movie. |
A poster is open to 'artistic interpretation' though A trailer is supposed to be composed of (usually the best) bits from the actual movie |
Leviathan - the Russian one - is a good watch 7.6/54K reviews over on IMDB A bad to worse situation for one man with an awful ending https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2802154 |
I think I have seen the Russian Leviathin, but I forget. I certainly DLed it. I used to DL everything for each year except porn. But now they are so huge that I leave out most of the junk movies from the junk movie makers. And if "artistic impression" is allowed, then expect cow sandwitches, rather than beef patties. |
@ Guest-3727 Yup, I used to download everything to but at $50 bucks for a rapidly-filled one terabyte drive it became too expensive |
