I agree, this was a hard watch at times, Julianne Moore really did well with this, infact they all did well |
"the love and peace to make simply living worthwhile" I'm looking after my 90 year old father in law. He has Alzheimer's, is only able to use one hand while the rest of his body barely works. He has severe incontinence. His wife has Alzheimer's too but is even worse and her family has utterly abandoned her in a high care retirement home. While she and my father in law were still living together, her Alzheimer's stripped away her memory, her dignity and her mind. She became violent on a daily basis as sadly does happen with some. Being 10 years younger than her husband, physically she was still capable of being a threat to him so we were forced to separate them, an agonizing decision. We bring him to visit her regularly but it takes time for her to even recognise him and she can't remember us, who she's known for thirty years. People who write "the love and peace to make simply living worthwhile" have not seen what advanced stage Alzheimer's actually looks like. It's truly horrible and I don't wish it on an enemy. You can't love somebody you can no longer remember. It's a living death in its later stages. I haven't seen the movie so I'm attacking the blurb not the film. It's a fairy-tale comment. Watching my Father in Law broken down from a highly active athletic and intelligent man to this hollow, pitiable shell is devastating, in his lucid moments he tells me he doesn't want to live like this. I pretend I can't understand him because I have no idea what to say. |
feels like just 2 years ago this came out... (2014) FUCK really good movie though imo |
