I am not understanding the skyscrapers in the backdrop of the cover nor the electrical lamp in screen shot 6. I thought this was supposed to be in the 1700's..... |
But at least there's no Starbucks cup. I haven't seen the movie, but unless there's a jump in time the last screen shot seems to be out of place (not just the lamp, all of it, clothes, furniture, everything.) |
Plot says: "lifestyle in the 18th century" but should say "18th century lifestyle" instead since story happens in present time. Skyscrapers, black lady, urban furniture all that is in the city where the main character goes out looking for help. I'm pretty sure even Starbucks cups could be found there in case of need |
CaptDesko you know black people existed in the 18th century, right? They weren't invented just for present time. |
#2837 What makes you think I don't know that dear sir? Why is your focus narrowing on that single point of my comment, when I clearly mentioned other things allegedly "out of place" within an Amish story? Can you see I'm addressing questions presented by other users? Did you read Jaxe's comment? Are you a troll sir? |
It may look like a cheap noname movie but if you actually click on the director he is friggin famous |
The sweet black girl could be an orphan or maybe even adopted by an Amish family. Remember "don't judge a book by it's cover" and in saying that it's viewing time |
There are no black elves, dwarves or hobbits in Middle Earth either. |
There was, but yes not anymore, Gandalf had the chance to save the last black hobbit but he went with a head nod, as the hobbit was dying, instead of saving him. |
But if you watch "The Lord of the Rings - The Rings of Power", you will see that there were black elves and half feet.... |
There are a few times in my life when words I know somehow look unfamiliar; this title is one of them. From a thumbnail glance it looks like a composition of a decent Turkish film I'd enjoy, complete with foreign titling; then it hits me. As an English title, it's pretty uninspired and I have no idea why I should care about a burning wagon when the horse is still rideable ... |
So an Amish girl is sent to a rehab for Amish girls only and there is a Black girl there who is supposedly Amish? Amish are European and White: mainly German and Swiss German. The small tight knit Amish settlements located in mostly Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin are White. If you go here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish and do a search for the words Black and African, you will only find black being used once to describe the color of the bonnets Amish women wear; nothing in reference to a race of people. |
According to IMDB, this is a LIFETIME TV movie. That explains the stupidity and lack of accuracy of it. |
If you spent more than two seconds looking at the cover before running off to Wikipedia, you'd have realized that the black character is NOT supposed to be Amish, this is easily understood by her clear lack of a bonnet and other traditional Amish clothing. |
"Amish are European and White: mainly German and Swiss German." jaxe always speeks mymind! *in TED's voice*"i think i love you" |
looks to me a writer had a very bad day. Stigmatizing Amish. When do these people come up with something original without having to kick at some group. Of course there has to be a black girl in the story as this is prescripted by woke guidelines. not gonna watch this one. |
It seems pretty easy to do a film thrashing the Amish and their culture since they probably will never produce a film hitting back. |
