Am I the only one who hate going to movies nowadays?

I hate going to movies nowadays because they make you buy the ticket in advance online and you have to pick a seat in advance too.

The prices are so high too.

First showing is usually the cheapest and it's still $7 for a digital non 3D non XD showing at Cinemark and $11 for a digital non 3D non XD showing at AMC.

Also when you buy the ticket online whether from the movie theater company websites or from a 3rd party seller like Fandango, they charge you a convenience fee which makes your final cost per ticket even higher.

What if you get there and you get someone noisy next to you,

someone taller in front of you,

someone behind you who likes to kick the back of the seat,

or the seat is just too close or too far from the screen?

You can't just move to another seat.

Also you can't judge from a seat to the screen from looking at the little seating chart on the movie theater website.

I have picked seats thinking it's far back enough and it turns out to be still too far up front and vice versa.

I only go to movies nowadays for the big movies that I am interested in.

Last movie I saw in theaters was Avengers Endgame and before that Star Wars Episode 8.

Plus a few months after a movie has been in theater, you can get it from the net on Amazon or from "other" places.

Watching it at home has its advantages too.

No dealing with crowds, parking, having to miss something when you need to go to the restroom, over priced concession food, sticky floors, etc.

It's not the price of seeing the actual movie that bothers me, but the price they charge for a drinks, popcorn, sweeties etc. Always pop into the supermarket and stock the wifes handbag with goodies before entering a cinema :D
We in the UK don't have to book online, we can just walk in. And if your sneaky enough or just have the balls, just walk in after the movies has started (as long as you don't mind missing the beginning) when the staff have moved. Free movie, cheap tucker and a good night :)

I don't hate it at all, in fact I much prefer it for films I want to see - far better on a huge screen with good sound.

I don't have to buy my tickets online, but I much prefer doing so.
No queuing for ages, or fighting for the best seat.
I book my seat in advance, so all I have to do is turn up, sit down & enjoy.

Expensive ?
I suppose that's subjective, I pay £7.60 and don't consider that expensive at all.
I agree about the price of goodies, I tend to eat beforehand, or take my own, or just not bother.
My local cinema is also a Showcase Deluxe - electrically controlled reclining seats - they are just super. :)

Cinemark here now only allows clear bag up to a certain size allowed into the theaters. Which means no more backpacks, handbags, purses, etc.

Also with this new advance purchase with reserved seating system at the theaters here, you can no longer go into another movie after you seen one.

I done that before:

pay for one movie, watch it, and then go into another afterward without paying.

Some theaters are set up where you can watch several without paying.

I think my record was 5 movies in one day, open to close.

Not one person asked me anything.

I go to the movies once in a while. What bugs me the most if someone is constantly talking and/or playing with his smartphone.

If the movie is good i am willing to pay the entrance fee, this isn't a problem.

But given the disturbances of other people, i more and more prefer watching the movie alone in peace at home.

I hate the seating and always get stuck behind some tard any way been a while since i last visited i think the last time i went was to watch Total Recall lol about 6y ago now. Also £7.50 for a small Nachos or hotdog is a bit of a rip off i used to buy the munchies at the shop before entering. Some Cinemas have been forced to slash it's ticket prices in half following a backlash by film lovers due to over pricing after what they call blockbuster tax meaning you had to pay an addition charge for the bigger named movies

NO jaxe, you are not. All you say it's very true. In my youth, 45 years ago, every second day, i was in cinema. Now things are changed, i'm old, ill, become "pirate". Play them at home on a 27 inchi Lg 4 k monitor, (not all of them) with my 600 Watts Maxxell 5.1 home cinema amplifier. More confortable 4 me, the ticket it's pay with internet fee/contract to isp, stop/pause when need toilet or hungry. Century 21, wtf, no?

I find it easier to watch everything on my computer monitor in 1080p and 4K.

Add subtitles so I don't have to worry about not understanding something and I can also rewind.

You can't do that in the movie theater.

Don't mean to double post but I forgot to mention that the theaters here charges freaking $5 for a 16.9 fl. oz. Dasani bottled water.

I bring my own.

I wear cargo pants or shorts with multiple large pockets, front, back and on the legs sides and I bring 2-3 bottles.

Then I wear a t-shirt that's 2 sizes too large so its length will cover the shorts.

I have been to one movie this year:

Avengers Endgame.

The only other movie I will see in theaters this year will be SW Ep 9.

The only movies I will see in theaters next year will be 007 #25 and Wonder Woman 2.

The rest I can watch at home!!

These days you can watch whatever movie you want at home. You can buy a screen as big as you desire. run the sound through your home entertainment center or home stereo. You can sit back in your own comfortable recliner. Grab your mobile and order whatever you like and have it delivered to your door. No need to be uncomfortable or annoyed or over charged for snacks.....

Yes Sir! +1000 ^^^^^

If you are hard of hearing like I am, you can get subtitles and you can also stop the movie, rewind and replay.

Small town with a small cinema , 2 screen set up with the smaller of the 2 having a capacity of less than 100 but usually has an audience of less than 10 , the larger auditorium has a capacity of maybe 200 and sometimes attracts an audience of 50 altho Avengers Endgame was popular with 5 nights sold out consecutively,  admission at 7$ 5£,€ it offers a cheap night out in relative comfort , it has digital  sound etc so fairly up to date , no snack pressure as you can tuck into a nice bag of chips or slurp a tinnie if need be ,  once saw a mother pushing her pram back and forth to try and subdue a grizzly child ...no one complained as they just turned up the volume .

Here is 20, 30 screens and they pack them in like cattle and when the movie ends and the credits starts rolling, they herd them out like cattle.

I like to stay for the credits because many movies now have mid credit and end credit sequence.

Some of theaters turn the auditorium "house lights" on as soon as the credits start rolling.

The screen is bright white, you can't see anything.

Then the ushers and managers enter the auditoriums and start picking up the trash from every row.

They don't want folks to stay for the end credits.

I paid for the movie and I will watch it from the time the projector started rolling until the last second.

AGREE with you ALL on so many levels! ... 8o

I would rather hang on my couch in some comfy clothes and eat my own snacks and not have to deal with being surrounded with the annoyance of PEOPLE! :facepalm

The last movie I went to "The Secret Life of Pets 2"  with my daughter & granson, cost me for tickets, snacks & what not,  $90.00 American Dollars! :facepalm
Now I did love to see the wonder in my gransons eyes (he is 3) B)

However ~ Hell to the NO (not again any time soon!!)
P.S. it is not the $ I spent but the simple fact that the theatres charge such outragous $ to sit in a theatre! 8o

Here a chain has a $6.50 all day Tuesday special including 3D showing, which is not bad.

But again you have to buy the tickets online in advance, pay a CONVENIENCE fee of about $2 for the CONVENIENCE of buying the ticket online and in advance, and also pick your seat at the time of purchase.

Like I have ALREADY said when I started this thread, the convenience fee and having to pick your seat in advance TURNS ME OFF.

I can understand a fee being annoying, but how does picking your seat turn you off ?? - its a distinct advantage.

Prolly because no matter which seat you choose....you can`t decide who sits next to you...?...you could choose the best seat in the house and still end up with a family of 8 that just fuq about throughout the whole movie sitting next to you..?....just an observation:D

From my OP:

;)

Quote:

What if you get there and you get someone noisy next to you,

someone taller in front of you,

someone behind you who likes to kick the back of the seat,

or the seat is just too close or too far from the screen?

You can't just move to another seat.

All the seats are assigned now.

Also you can't judge from a seat to the screen from looking at the little seating chart on the movie theater website.

I have picked seats thinking it's far back enough and it turns out to be still too far up front and vice versa.
Before this pick seats in advance system, you go to a movie and you don't like the seat, you can move.

I have moved and changed seats for the following reasons:

1. Someone behind me can't stop kicking the back of my seat,

2. lady near me couldn't stop shutting up and kept asking her male companion: what is she doing? What's going to happen now? Why is she going in there for? I can't watch this, how can you watch this?

It was a horror movie and I am sure it was also his first time watching it so her questions were stupid and annoying.

3. Someone in front of me two rows down would take out their cell phone every few minutes and look at it, it's annoying and distracting. Even if you are looking straight ahead at the big screen, when those cell phones screens lights up, your eyes still catches it.

4. Guy in front of me was tall and blocking my view.

5. Someone near me kept making noise with the straw in their drink, the noise that a straw makes when you pull it out almost completely and push it back in and the noise a straw makes when you suck on it and there is not a lot of liquid left in the cup.

I may see the new Terminator in theater when it's released on November 1st.

My son wants to see it.

If I do it will be the first movie I've seen in theaters since Avengers: Endgame back in May.

My kids did see 2 movies in the theaters after that: Toy Story 4 and Secret Life of Pets 2.

They were on their Summer break and their grandparents took them on Tuesdays when Cinemark has the special one low price for all showings Tuesdays.

I was at work both of those times.

I rather watch movies at home. Cheaper, no fighting traffic, rude people talking during the movie, expensive food, sticky floors, plus I can rewind if I miss something or didn't understand what was said.

I personally like the theater experience. Day time matinee, hid my own candy and pop in a oversized jacket, never have to preselect a seat, ALWAYS able to get tickets at the box office cause you're lucky if half the theater fills up so the are happy to sell directly at the box office.  That said I only like movies like the original Independence Day, Titanic, Aquaman on the big screen.
