| Merry Christmas Everyone! Banner competitions are good idea to promote torrentgalaxy and encourage creativity.....but I think I have a better idea: Why not we start thinking about encoding competition? Simply, a sample file (preferable a blu-ray remux in 1080p) consisting of various scenes (action, outdoor scenery, low light, closeups etc. to increase complexity) will be provided to the competitors and they will need to submit the encode for quality analysis (1 or 2 encodes (separate for x264 & x265) per competitor). The results can be calculated using VMAF & MS_SSIM or other quality metrics and winners can be declared based on scores.In the case of a tie the dispersion of low score frames or total file size or sound quality etc. can be considered to declare the winner. I believe that this will not only improve our knowledge about encoding process but also the quality of the content @ torrentgalaxy. Your feedback is necessary to start such a competition...so fell free to express your ideas with likes or dislikes. | |

| As kentk9 pointed out, a contest of this nature would be fine and dandy if you're a video encoder, but it would leave the majority of our members unable to participate or even knowledgeable enough to make an informed decision. | |

| Yep, quite right.....may be even less participants than banner...we can then provide basic guide about encoding in x264 and x265.I find handling video easier than creating banners/pictures using Photoshop or other tools... But it will be certainly more beneficial for torrentgalaxy in the long run...as far as participation is concerned it is =~ prizes :).....competition name "Participation Is More Important Than Encoding" Any ideas for luring creative members to the boring technical aspects of encoding :) | |

| Nope, you are not.....it is still just an idea not declaration...but Xvid will have low scores or large file size than x264 or x265.Generally x265>x264>Xvid or If you can prove otherwise....just see the opportunity to defeat x264 or even x265 with Xvid (that can be the creative part of this competition). Infact, you can choose your favorite encoding algorithm and software...and defeat others on scores.....but there are some constraints: 1) Number of frames in encoded video should be equal to original video. 2) If video quality is same then file size will be taken into account...and even if that matches then audio quality will be analyzed. | i think more users can make a nice banner and post it versus members with encoding skills and good pc's i just convert from .mkv/.mp4 in .avi/xvid for my old friends standalone dvd players so, i'm out like bandit ask?? it's just my two cents but good luck if the competition will start:D | |

| I am sorry to say guys as one of the few encoder/uploaders here I have no interest in this competition. I encode as I feel and certainly not interested by having it judged by standards that mean little or nothing to me. I have always been interested in helping new encoders on personal level and writing tutorial threads to inspire newbees into encoding there own material. | |

| Great to know that you are helping others by tutorials and pm....a competition is not about how much tutorials or threads are created on encoding...it is actually about how much they have understood and learned from it. Students may study at university ...or join online program but sooner or later they have to take a test/competition..finally results/scores is all about how much they have learned. I don't wish to judge anyone ...(one who conducts the competition should not participate in it....there is no point in conducting a competition and participating in it)...it is the video quality metrics VMAF, MS_SSIM that will judge.....so TAKE IT IN A WAY THAT I AM not judging others... hence no need to be egostic (who is this guy with few sh*tty encodes to judge us?). :) The Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG) is an international consortium of video quality assessment experts and they have understood the importance of VMAF. | To be honest.....everyone i know who encodes their own stuff do so to THEIR OWN standards:D As in...."If it look`s good to me and i`m happy with it then i`m happy to share it" Using a "Standard Quality" etc....no matter who`s standards they are.....will not work with everyone as different systems/audio,video cards/encode setting etc will LOOK DIFFERENT to each person depending on WHAT system or TV they are watching it on.:D I personally have never heard of them8o:facepalm.....and at the end of the day...it`s just a bunch of peeps who`ve decided that THEY know best when it comes to quality:facepalm:facepalm:-@ Merry Christmas Ya`ll:P:-) | |

| YIFY was indeed popular.. & very consistent.. but his encodes had one MAJOR flaw (when chatting with him, he even confirmed it) both the 720p & 1080p versions had 96k audio (aka the tin-can sound) So even the GREATEST video ratio/algorithm settings can still have CRAPPY audio :facepalm But that's another story/contest B) | |

| :D:D:D Have a look at organization and it's peeps and their profiles etc. https://www.its.bldrdoc.gov/vqeg/vqeg-home.aspx https://www.its.bldrdoc.gov/vqeg/board.aspx :D:D:D good joke. that's why VMAF defines quality for different devices.......it seems to me that the re-pliers in this forum are ready to post without reading replies or links...and others quickly liking them...seems to me a kind of group of like minded people. 100% TRUE video codecs/encoders are different from audio codescs/encoders ...for eg..videos have (x265, x264, Xvid, etc.) and audio have (AAC, AC-3, AMR, WMR etc.) ...hence a good video may have bad audio and vice-versa. Furthermore, encoding is also about the source...even YIFY settings may not be suitable for a particular source...but he also never used same settings for all encodes...we need to analyze the source first...YIFY concentrated more on the video part than the audio.Sometimes I also found his particular video not playing smoothly on old android tablets... like samsung galaxy tab-3. So, welcome to the world of VMAF .....which defines quality based on devices and viewing distance. Never said he had crappy sound in all of his encodes.....just being tight on file-size, he put more efforts on the video part.But that was also the time when both space and bandwidth were precious.But he certainly was the cleverest guy when opting for especially x264 settings. That's why we select different codecs for video and audio during encoding (sometimes you simple select passthrough for audio, if you believe audio is at optimum quality for the size). [/quote] i never sad, for encoding need a gaming machine !! but with two cores cpu, you not really have more juice for anything else to do with the pc my convertings have just 1000 kb/s bitrate because the old dvdplayers cannot read higher so, not interested but good luck 4 others, merry christmas:D | |
