| Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike suffered a major outage on Friday, the company told NBC, impacting businesses globally. "CrowdStrike is aware of reports of crashes on Windows hosts related to the Falcon Sensor," Crowdstrike said in a recorded message. Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike suffered a major outage on Friday, the company told NBC, impacting businesses globally. The outage resulted from an issue with the latest update, the company said. CrowdStrike is now in the process of rolling back that update globally. The confirmation came after widespread reports of technical issues across the world, with many linked to Microsoft products. The U.S. tech giant confirmed earlier on Friday that its cloud services had been mostly restored after it suffered an outage. "CrowdStrike is aware of reports of crashes on Windows hosts related to the Falcon Sensor," CrowdStrike said in a recorded message. Australian telecom firm Telstra said global issues affecting CrowdStrike and Microsoft were disrupting some of its systems. "The issue is causing some holdups for some of our customers and we thank them for their patience," a company spokesman said. CNBC parent company NBC Universal is one of the businesses affected by the CrowdStrike outage. It appears to be a dodgy driver connected to the latest update that is causing the blue screen of death on systems world-wide All systems that use Crowdstrike are affected, airlines, banks, hospitals media etc etc... "What we know... Businesses including banks, airlines, telecommunications companies, TV and radio broadcasters and supermarkets have been taken offline following a mass global outage. Major US airlines have been grounded. The outage appears to be affecting Windows PCs globally. Users on the subreddit for cyber security firm Crowdstrike reported issues in India, the United States and New Zealand. Users in Australia began reporting issues early this morning, stating they had been locked out of their workstations." Outage is related to the Falcon Sensor on windows systems stopping them from booting due to possible faulty driver update. Can only be fixed manualy currently...PC's have to be re-booted with the affected file removed first. more info when available... Last edited by B4ND1T69 on 2024-07-19 09:29:16 | |

| Support, software and compatability. Joe blogs running a home PC is not quite the same as a major business running thousands of devices, sharing files & data with lots of other companies, and requiring support when it fails. The software they need is often very specific, and developed/available on Windows only. Also, this was not a windows issue as such, it was a software fault caused by a bad file, which then caused the OS to crash. The same issue could just as easily happen on Linux, in fact it did - Crowdstrike released an update back in April that caused some Linux machines to crash, the impact was just not anything like as global (and thus newsworthy). | |
