| It works like this. When a person shares a file from his computer, he becomes the seeder. The person who downloads the file is the leecher or a peer. However, when the file has finished downloading, the person can upload the file from his computer as well, making him another seeder for that particular file. The more seeders, the greater the number of computers that have that file available for download. And with more seeders comes much faster download speed, and even this speed increases and decreases depending on the combination of speed the torrent is being seeded at. The more leechers, the greater the number of people trying to download that file. Peers (or Leechers): A leecher is any peer that does not have the entire file and is downloading the file. Trackers: A tracker is a server that keeps track of which seedsand peers are in the swarm (swarm: all peers sharing a torrent - uploading or downloading). P.S. You are automatically a peer when you start downloading a file. However, if you stop the upload process and only download, you become a leecher! Tracker : A tracker is a server that keeps track of which seeds and peers are in the swarm. Seeder/Seed : A Seeder or Seed is a is a peer that has an entire copy of the torrent and offers it for upload. The more seeders there are, the better the chances of getting a higher download speed. Peer: A peer is a BitTorrent client running on a computer on the Internet to which other clients connect and transfer data. a peer is usually one with incomplete data. Leech : A leech is a client who is downloading the file from the network. In some cases leech is the term used for clients with a negative impact on the system i.e. the ones who download the files but avoid having them as a seed ,thus affecting the over all share-ratio. Updating seed stats for uploaders https://torrentgalaxy.to/forums.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=54&page=1#post77 Now all of these numbers (seeders and peers) are subjective and come from trackers – most trackers are great, but there are some that create exaggerated seed numbers. What are Torrent Trackers? TorrentTracker works just like a server that communicates between two peers. As a result, torrent users can transfer their files through BitTorrent protocol. When you download a torrent file by any torrent site, it is included in your torrent client software. In this case, role of torrent client software becomes crucial. It will request the file that has been downloaded on other systems. You may assume these other systems as peers. Hence, you can download a chunk of file from peers hassle-free. Difference between Public and Private Torrent Trackers You may call public torrent trackers as open trackers. Therefore, any torrent user can avail these tracker addresses to improve the downloading speed for developing new torrent files. Furthermore, torrents users can select the same tactic to increase the downloading speed for current torrent files. When you use private trackers, you will need to register yourself before accessing the tracker addresses. In addition, private trackers do not encourage potential users on their sites. Thus, the existing users have to request new users to become their members. However, both types of torrent trackers differ with each other in terms of speed and security. Here are the lastest tested and true trackers we use... https://torrentgalaxy.to/forums.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=92&page=1#post514 and here is another great site for up to date trackers: https://newtrackon.com/ Just remember, any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask away. | Hi, i wonder if those trackers mentioned in the article are really necessary. I think with DHT and PEX you don't need them any more. Perhaps i am wrong, and if someone more into tech like me could clarify on this, i'd appreciate it! Regards bomb Last edited by bombegranate on 2018-07-21 19:52:40 | |

| I am not up as much on DHT and PEX, but I know that every torrenting site uses that list or similar list of trackers. You are right that DHT and PEX seem to make trackers unnecessary, but all clients allow you to not search by DHT and PEX - sorry, in other words, if you don't tick off the boxes on your client, then you wont use DHT and PEX. I hope that sounds understandable, my apologies for any errors in my own logic. | |

| Thanks for your thoughts on this fairly complicated matter. Well, when i open a torrent file and see a list of 20+ trackers, i wonder if it's necessary to use such a large amount of trackers all at the same time. So i mostly delete them all and use DHT and PEX instead. Or i add one or two of the popular trackers, but not more. | |

| Some sites add up all seeds on trackers. So the more trackers a torrent has on those site the more seeds will show. But if you download the torrent you won't get that many seeds as some seeds are on multiple trackers and in a torrent client only counts it as one. | |

| Hi Bomb Another point to mention is PEX & DHT work fantastic for files that have many seeds. For rare files that only have 1 or 2 seeds PEX & DHT fail, so up to date trackers are a must have. A Question ? If someone has D/L the full file,uT has the default share set at 1.1 so how do we set ut to always at full speed share until we stop that file. Dose this work "-1" in the default box. I use Client uT 2-2-1 Devils advocate Pranaams. Last edited by mickjapa108 on 2018-10-11 10:42:31 | |

| Yes, i can confirm that. Here and there i have a torrent that is very old ( > 10 yrs ), that barely has two or three seeders. In this case, DHT & PEX alone won't suffice. However, adding a popular tracker will do the trick. Kind regards, bomb:bomb | |

| Hi there, I hope it's OK to ask this question in this tread. These trackers do not connect when I download a torrent from this site, udp://tracker.cyberia.is:6969/announce udp://tracker.birkenwald.de:6969/announce udp://ipv4.tracker.harry.lu:80/announce udp://9.rarbg.me:2970/announce also, I miss these trackers that are active and very fast, udp://tracker.bittor.pw:1337/announce udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:6969/announce udp://p4p.arenabg.com:1337/announce udp://tracker.tiny-vps.com:6969/announce Is it possible to add these reliable trackers to the Torrentgalaxy list of trackers, for obvious reasons. I have added these trackers to my client manually, so I am OK, but if these trackers are included when downloading, there is a larger chance of completion for everyone. Thanks for helping. | |

| Given that RARBG has gone, it seems unlikely any of the rarbg trackers work now (I've tried 3 of their tracker urls, and the're all dead). The nature of public trackers is that they are not 100% reliable. trackers come, trackers go, and some go offline for a while, then come back. "tracker.tiny-vps.com" is a classic example, it works for a while, then goes offline for a while, then works again. Also, "ipv4.tracker.harry.lu" has been stable for a long time, but seems offline atm [I need to swap that out in my list]. As long as you have 5 or 6 reliable trackers, you will generally be good for a long time. | |

| Thanks for the reply, I have about 35 active trackers, so I'm fine. Like I said, that it would be a good idea to keep a list of active trackers for TGX. So everyone can have a good connection. If 4 of the 9 trackers don't work, you miss a load of peers. Not everyone is able to add trackers manual, because they do not know how. To add trackers is not even an option in some clients. It would be nice if TGX would keep an eye on the Trackers and have a list as https://newtrackon.com/ | |
