| Compressed doesn't always mean quality. If I find a 5gb vs 1gb file, I'll always choose the 5gb because it usually means it would be better quality. Just my opinion though:D | |

| As no one has actually answered the question properly i thought i`d try.. How to make 800MB movies like Galaxyrg 2x Free programs come to mind which u can try; MeGUI and Vidcoder. Vidcoder is based on Handbrake and supports GPU encoding of both x264 and x265 if u own a an Nvidia capable graphics card. Of course if u have a fast PC its always best to use CPU encoding over GPU as u wil always get better quality thru CPU than you would thru graphics card. Handbrake is more popular but you cannot specifically set a file size unless you have a very old version, you can calculate a bitrate to get the desired filesize, but why have that headache when Vidcoder lets u put in the direct file size. When it comes to GPU encoding, the newer the graphics card the better the quality. i.e i have a capable graphics card that can do x265 but it has a much older chip version , mine is a GTX 1050ti from 2016, it does not give great results. However if u have a newer Nvidia graphics card the quality will be better as they updated the chipset and will give u condierably less encode time which is very fast. CPU encodes will always be better quality but can take extemley long time. CPU will always yield higher quality than GPU encodes The other option is Megui which also lets u put in file target size but i dont think it supports GPU encoding ( my version does not, but have not updated in sometime). I`m unsure about Intel Quick Sync Video, it is supposed to give good fast encodes, i have intel chipset but my rig pre-dates it. supposely gives similar fast encodes like GPU. | |

| There are reams of tutorials out there for encoding using handbrake, megui, staxrip, dvdfab, ripbot etc etc i always found using handbrake gave a grainy render but that's just my opinion, there are some really good tuts for using megui to get small 800mb encodes again it's what you prefer using..... I agree with the "quality over quantity" ethic in encoding that's why i was always happy ripping my BluRay discs using DVDFab. You get a great 720p x264 encode with DTS at around 4ish GB and 1080p around 7-8 GB and watching it on a 50-55 inch tv is great........ So tinker around with some of them, you'll eventually come across what you need and are happy with | |

| The galaxy 720p TV & film rips are my favorite as they seem decent quality and low file sizes. Which is fine for 1080p TV. I tend to collect the TV shows that i enjoy so storage is always an issue. Also i dont get how internet works, maybe my VPN sucks but without VPN (*always use VPN when torrenting) i get 30mbs but with VPN most i`ve seen is 4mbs tho most likely 3mbs. I not planning to upgrade my ISP just want the cheapest option. Ii`ve filled 3 seperate drives over the years around 28TB and looking to get a new one soon hopefully 16-18Tb. With films i dont keep most for long unless it something amazing, that being said, I just wondering how people cope with storage, if you were to download everything in high file sizes you would max out storage really quick. Maybe it just me but hate deleting stuff. My most looked at section of this site is TV packs of which i rarely download the outrageous sizes, i would guess they not that popular as they always have not as many downloaders, also i am guessing wont be shared for too long as i`m guessing will be moved to another storage device. I`m just curious what the large file size downloaders do? watch and delete? or collect everything.? how much TB do you all own? I think when new H.266 VVC codec comes out which promises 45% lower bitrate than H.265 HEVC then i`ll upgrade my old 1st gen core i7 and maybe download the crazy high file sizes in the hope of re-encoding to much much smaller. i.e as much as i like reality shows i.e survivor. 480p is fine for me. if its Dallas cheerleaders making the team i may get 720p , something like breaking bad i would want as 1080p luckily my breaking bad is Joybells encode which is only 32gb for all 5 seasons , otherwise the 720p galaxy rips are enough. When i see TV packs that are 50gb for 12 episodes it really puts me off. Im` sure the quality will be awesome but still...... Anyways thats my preferences, each to their own... what do you like to do? Last edited by realityshow on 2021-12-02 14:00:37 | |

| I think what you need to try and keep up with these uploaders producing greatly compressed movies and tv files are a couple of programs, forget paying for encoders as the free ones are way better. Now firstly you can use a free program called handbrake, this is easy to use and encodes well but i think to get anywghere close to these uploaders you need to use a free program called ffmpeg now this is a little more difficult to use but just you tube it and other users will guide you along... | |

| I use megui and use highest x264 compression settings and for 1080p can use 1500 video bitrate and keep low size and quality is close to original source. Megui uses cpu for encoding, for gpu handbrake works fine ut need to know what settings to use or you get pixely copy of a encode on fast scenes. | You need to start using 2 pass encoding, The encoding software will not know where to use maximum bitrate for the fast scenes on a single pass | |

| In Handbrake With 2 pass encoding, Should I do a turbo first pass or not? I'm going to guess that doing a slower first pass will result in slightly better quality? Last edited by EVILTEEN777 on 2023-01-29 22:01:57 | |

| I have usually left turbo first pass on as I have never noticed a difference, but it's questionable point. The first pass is just to "educate" the encoding software. | |

| i wish gpu encoding allowed 2 pass encode shame it only uses 1 pass look here : https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/382860/nvenc-2-pass-encoding/ possibilities of 2 pass encoding if you have a nvidea card Last edited by atomicfusion on 2023-01-29 22:28:58 | |

| Talking about the gpu encoding i have tried it on a few programs and i got really bad quality convertion. I am using videoproc converter Ai i used the gpu accelerator and my convertions were melted. I disabled it and my converted movies are god quality now. Anyone else had this problem | |

| Well, firstly, VideoProc is more than Convert base application not actually encoder, if you want something worth it and can handle the job, then Use Handbrake, MeGUI, vMix, MediaCoder, Wirecast and nowadays XMedia Recode works better. They have better handling with GPU and can handle top end compression process, also, you can make such changes to lower, increase, bitrate, frame, profile, extension, etc! And the most valuable part, you can get required quality along size, so, I prefer above 3 besides using VideoProc for such encoding purposes. Anyone who wants lesser file size along good quality: they are such settings to make to get good quality with very lesser file size, if anyone just plays with bitrate/frame rate, in result you will lose quality for no reason, whatever the project is, slower or slowest preset gives you better quality with minimal size, normal/fast/faster gives you fair quality with no control on file size, also, that's not it, choosing the correct bitrate and profile is the most important part! A bunch of tutorials out there on specific tools, you check the most usual settings works on them! best regards | |
