| recently had some comments about compatibility issues using audio codecs ac-3 & e-ac-3 for the past week-ish or so, I changed the stereo (2.0) audio codec to he-aac and starting with the upload, I switched the 5.1 audio track to he-aac as well all of the HoTD season finale uploads used he-aac for 5.1 & 2.0 has anyone had any compatibility issues or quality problems with he-aac, and if so, what is your preferred audio codec using a bit rate that will not exceed 320kbps for 5.1 and 160kbps for 2.0? | |

| guessing if you had problems with ac-3 then e-ac-3 is the same so you're preferred codec would be _________

| been digging into specs of tvs, soundbars, and streaming devices, which I'm assuming* is the bulk of the equipment being used to watch my encodes, (sorry, no dvd or bluray players), and of course, one size does not fit all, who would ever want to make it that simple {yes, sarcasm}; now factoring in the preferred channels and bit rates, and it appears that ac3 for 5.1 is more compatible than aac, but aac still has solid compatibility for 2.0 way over thinking these things thanks everyone Last edited by phunpsyz on 2022-10-25 18:01:17 | |

| Question:I'm encoding A 100 Episode TV pack so i want to make sure im doing it right - What bitrate is good for Ac3 5.1 channels?? Handbrake defaults to 224kb/s but from the research ive done 400 seems like the most commonly recommended rate. Any suggestions? | |

| If I remember correctly when I used to encode bluray uploads with ac3 and 5.1 I always set it at 640 I think 🤔 which to me sounded excellent, overkill to some good to me. anyway I'm a great believer in quality over quantity. it's what your happy with yourself ![]() | |

| In my case the source is DVD, not sure if that makes any difference. My problem is I have no 5.1 channel system to test with😢 so i can only guess what sounds good or not. Anyone else? Last edited by EVILTEEN777 on 2023-02-16 11:15:37 | |

| a few thoughts I would not exceed the original bitrate imo AC3 does not sound as clean as AAC (including fdk & he-aac) but less likely to be transcoded using a 5.1 profile and no matter what you decide, you will probably still get comments to change the bitrate and the codec | |

| Assuming a person's device can play back AAC, then they can play HE-AAC just fine. Although I would just use Opus instead, can't go wrong with it, it's currently the best lossy audio codec excluding USAC. And it's widely deployed everywhere. | |
