| Hi i was wondering if anyone knows of a solution. I have one desktop PC with Geforce graphics which i use for Win7 but also manually swap out the master drive sometimes for Win10. Whilst i havent really used Win10 for long time i was quite content with Win7 however theres a particular program i`m using recently that only runs on Win10 which needs use of the graphics card. I have a 3.5" USB 3.0 caddy and would love to run Win10 from the caddy instead of swapping out the main master drive manually? I am aware of WintoUSB Free which is a software that does exactly this however it requires the drive to be prepped first by WintoUSB then would have to put a NEW install of Win10. Which i may do tho is long process. Is there another way perhaps? If not thats fine just a thought eh? If you have any links to look at would be appreciated. | |

| When the drive is connected you should be able to pick it as first boot device in BIOS. | |

| I use a disk swap like this: I swap out between my Win 11 and Ubuntu Linux. There not expensive, can be found on Ebay or Amazon. All you need is 2 HDDs | |

| Thanks for the replies! Thxs for sharing. A live usb is ok for some things :) i did think about. Good idea however most old PC`s like mine only want the main OS on the Master cable and dont usually like it when it set to boot from slave cable. Had i had a bigger hard drive i would have put both OS on same hard drive and done a dual boot which is popular that may still be an option! thanks for the suggestion. Thanks this is a good idea to hot swap drives, right now tho i`m juggling a 2.5" SSD that has Win7 and a 3.5" HDD with Win10. I saw a good one on ebay that easily lets you slot swap BOTH 2.5" & 3.5" easily however its a chinese seller and would take over a month to arrive. I looked at others but nothing like that one. Otherwise i`d have to put a 3.5" enclose for the 2.5" SSD to hot swap so its a an idea! May check some other website shops :) As well as above responses i had a good link from Ange1 which may prove useful. This is to clone the existing OS onto a usb stick! Something i never thought about! i may even have a 128gb stick laying around which may be enough space or i can pick up a 256gb one. Thanks i really do appreciate all the responses it has given me lots more options than i had yesterday! Last edited by realityshow on 2022-06-17 20:47:10 | |
