| I got a brand new western digital 16tb external hard drive direct from western digital website, the thing was working fine then the next day the computer would not read it even tho i could see it lighting up! here`s what happened to me and may solve the issue should it arise for you! i swapped the power supply from another external 8tb western digital and now the 16tb one works! Turns out those cheap b`strds put a cheaper plug, and the eu, uk adaptor does not click into place and gravity is making it slide off the power transformer, i was in shock and awe at the cheap pin plug, ironically the plug transformer from the 8tb one is better made; clicks in place. I could return it but cant be bothered i`m gonna use some superglue and make sure the adaptor doesnt slide off! It maybe i got a badly made one me, but i can see the transformer looks redesigned and different from the older one so imagine there are lots of confused people wondering if the hard drive has failed... | |

| I read a tech article somewhere (Tom's Hardware or PC Magazine I think) that said think twice about buying one of the new high capacity mechanical hard drives, especially from WD and Toshiba because they're cutting so many corners to make them affordable that the expected lifespan is shorter than that of a SSD. | |

| superglue bad idea it breaks down to fast , try gorilla glue and a toothpick ... 16tb external hard drive if its a enclosed unit you may want to think about pulling the 3.5-'s out of it 16tb may be 2 8tb drives not in front of me and using a docking bay, those cases have a tendency to fail ...
