Where in the world can you still buy cheap land and live offgrid?

You would really seriously need to be the proverbial grizzly adams to even consider wanting to live off the grid, I mean out in the sticks away from society in whole, most people would not be able to handle living without creature comforts such as internet, cable TV, hot bath or shower, having the convenience store down the road etc etc.

Don't remind me Alien, I'm so far off the grid I don't even have cell service. If it weren't for having a forest fire ranger station near me, I wouldn't have internet either. The rest I can do without. :_B)

Its a tuff game, thats for sure. Working 9 to 5, consuming fake news media, cable tv, distracting yourself and keeping yourself busy is so much harder to do, plus I agree most city kids would probably struggle.

But really what do you need? A shelter? Can buy a container and put in a kitchen and windows this starts at $2000 in portugal for example. 10km2 (1 hectar) plot maybe 10k€. Solar system to even run a 3060 or ps5 and tv/projector would maybe be $5k and be good for about 20 years. Plus you can get StarLink from Elon Musk for really fast internet, or some 5g router and you would have a good speed for maybe $50 a month.

Thats the hardest part actually. I do wonder what I would miss the most from city life. Probably hot showers, heating, availability of everything like groceries/foods.

But for a shower theres even $20 showers for campin vans that have a black colored connection so it heats up in the sun. For heating you could use a chinese diesel heater, of course here you are not fully offgrid as it still needs diesel which you will need to buy somewhere, but if you can get diesel its like $2 a day which is much cheaper than heating in western countries where you easily pay $10 a day (especially now with Ukraine/Putin issues). But if you have a property you can just build a fire oven and with the right stones you only need to put firewood in it once every 48 hours and it heats your whole house

With Elon Musk StarkLink you will have good internet basically anywhere in the world and can still download 100 movies and 50 tv series seasons a day. Also in other places you often can get 4g/5g internet with a router you put somewhere on top of a tree on your property.

But yeah its hard to figure out. Probably you will miss some things from the city life.

Yeah thats always interesting to see property prices elsewhere. I am not in the US, not sure I could buy land there maybe just put a german flag on some empty land and claim it mine like early settlers lol.

In Hungary, Serbia, Albania and other east european countries you can still buy a huge plot with an old (stone) house for like $15k. Which is basically how much you can earn in the west (US or western EU) in a few months.

Pretty amazing actually.

If you want safety there is portugal. You have quite some freedom on your land, and even if you put up some illegal stone house nobody cares. Unless maybe if its in the first row at the beach.

But I was looking into properties there and you could still get 20000m2 so 2ha for like €20k. Thats just the land with nothing there. Land with some infrastructure like wells will be more.

If you have 2ha you are set for life i would say. Enough space for 20 pigs, 50 chicken, 200 fruit trees and a lot more..
