| I have been noticing a lot lately that the TorrentGalaxy uploads as well as other groups are uploading a lot of 720x360 uploads such as Nancy Drew Yellowstone and a bunch of others and if you go to other sites you can find them in 1280x720. The reason I'm asking about this is because the 720x360 uploads don't take up the whole screen on my tv but the 1280x720 do,I understand that Star Trek Discovery and other shows are filmed that way but not Nancy Drew and Yellowstone to name a few. | |

| 720x360 (SD) would be "standard" PAL/DVD signal which has a resolution of 768*576 See the Wikipedia page on Computer Display Standards you will understand the use of them! As you can see, it mentions it as PAL, but it is also the native resolution that DVDs work at. It's SD category. Just as an extra bit of information PAL is one of the common TV signal standards before HD (720 and 1080) became common, the alternative to PAL is NTSC which is used in America amongst other countries and as it only has 480 vertical scanlines has the abbreviation of 480(i/p). See this: if you could understand it.....  720x360p, 720x280p, 720x400p, these AR/cropping/display ratio/frame rate things while ripping or encoding, (AR means aspect ratio) it also depends on system's display resolution, that's a long story, simply Google these, and you will get all the answers. | A lot of American TV shows are now being shot in 2:1 aspect ratio, so you will get 720 x 360 (SD), or 1280 x 640 (HD,720p) or 1920 x 960 (FHD,1080p). Releases occasionally add the borders, to pad them out, so they are, for example, 1280 x 720p streams. The video picture in them is still only 1280 x 640, the rest is just a 40p black border at the top and bottom. | I can see for Star Trek what they are trying to do and I think it's do to make it feel more like a movie theater feeling when you watch it,but if you ask me it sucks really bad. | |
