As far as I know, it is not currently possible to decrypt the files encrypted by the Eight ransomware. It may, though, be possible in the future if the decryption keys are recovered from the cybercriminals’ servers. Therefore, if you do not plan on paying the ransom, it is advised that you make an image of the encrypted drives so that you can possibly decrypt them in the future.

I got bitch slapped by a ransom ware virus a while back - it attacked my network and encrypted a large percentage of files stored on my NAS Devices - i lost a ton of files and had to find and regather terabytes of video and music files that had to be deleted - the drives all had to be wiped and reformatted and then slowly repopulated. It was a disaster and no matter how i searched i could not find a way to restore or decrypt those files that were affected. I was barely able to salvage some space and drives that were not affected - but i basically had to start my entire collection from scratch....

There is some advice here ;
https://www.myantispyware.com/2020/03/31/how-to-remove-eight-ransomware-virus-recovery-eight-files-for-free/#decrypt

All my files are backed up, so if something comes along and mangles them, I can simply restore them from backup.

thanks for the advice; I've tried recovery programs but to no avail.

didn't have the space to backup .. much of anything

after some investigation, my best guess is they exploited a rdp vulnerability.  If you don't use rpd, make sure its not enabled, it you do use rdp, take steps to remedy unwanted access

at this point, I'm just holding on to some select files (in case a decryptor emerges) and rebuilding the library .... yay
