Its dropped a bit on imdb already down to 5.8 but its still Liam Neeson. One of the few actors who is not lost to alzheimers yet like Bruce Willis and Tom Hanks. Rotten Tomatoes: 22% Audience Score: 37% As always I appreciate the upload TGX you saved me $950 already this year with all the FREE content! |
Well, that being Liam Neeson played a 'Taken-like with alzheimer' movie. 😅 |
Where the hell does it say Tom Hanks has Alzheimers??? He has Type 2 Diabetes......I can see where you got confused........ |
It might be the Alzheimer's that guest 5636 has and dont know it yet because of alzheimers |
Bruce Willis has aphasia and dementia and has stopped acting in movies (though earlier produced ones still keep coming out). Liam Neeson and Tom Hanks are still out there with all their scruples, taking what jobs they can. I honestly don't even mind that Liam Neeson is taking over as Frank Drebin in a Naked Gun reboot |
If it drops below 5.0 (our cut off point) we won't be watching under any circumstances regardless of Liam Neeson's presence |
@helpme: Whoa! I hadn't heard about that. And since it sounded so off the wall, I had to check it on IMDB, and sure enough he IS going to play Frank Drebin in a reboot of Naked Gun! Go figure. I believe THAT is going to be gold! |
Has anyone actually watched this yet? I would appreciate some feedback from those who have, instead of unnecessary comments about 'aging' actors...PS I thought Tom Hanks did a decent job in "A Man Called Otto" although my favourite character was the cat!!! |
I did, and I think I liked more the overall atmosphere and smart dialogues than the actual story. Great music and photography. (small spoiler alert:) It depicts different defects of humankind but only some get punished while others almost get rewarded, I didn't feel that aligned much with the protagonist's ethics. |
@karelyn-I've seen it as well. Movie is handsomely mounted, script is decent, well acted overall and great technical credits. But the movie as a whole doesn't have doesn't pop or zing like the great movies in this genre (it's no L.A. Confidential!). But Worth a watch as movies like these don't get made often now |
Dick Powell, Robert Mitchum, Bogart- quite an act to follow. But I'll watch anything with Liam in it. |
You forgot Robert Montgomery, James Garner, Elliot Gould, James Caan, Tomáš Hanák (czech film) and I'm not including actors that portrayed the character Philip Marlowe on TV and/or radio!! The character was originally created by Raymond Chandler for his short stories... |
Neeson is one of those few actors who can play any very different role (Battleship, Narnia, Star Wars, Schildner's List, Men In Black, Taken etc.) with the same expression, as if he has a face paralisys, and still be convincing. |
Love Noir, Love Liam Neeson and Love Neil Jordan. Diane Kruger playing Jessica Lange's daughter was spot on casting. Top heavy with with Gaelic references, due to Jordan, which I loved (and I'm not even Irish ) like slainté and quoting Joyce was a nice touch. Mostly just glad to see Liam in anything that's outside his streak of "Taken" derived characters . A/9V/9 The movie is watchable, Liam is a wee flat as Marlowe IMO, so if your expecting a Bogart,Mitchum, or even Garner level Marlowe, you'll be disappointed. I didn't, so I wasn't. Decent, not great. The story runs out of stream at the end. 5/10 As always, Thx GalaxyRG |
Rotten spellcheck...I'm assuming you mean ...runs out of "steam" at the end...? Thanks for the feedback, very helpful... |
Hey this was a great summary of the movie. I especially could relate when you said Liam was a wee flat as Marlowe. |
Guest-8443, so your watching based on others opinions? how many times have you watched a movie where the rating was 5+ but you hated it & thought you wasted your time? Trust your own instincts there is always the off button |
The trailer looks good. Does not look like the old Marlow with Bruce Lee, or the Bogarde one, reminds me of City Heat with Clint Eastwood. |
Bruce Lee only had two scenes in the 1969 version with James Garner in the role of Philip Marlow!! Paul Bogart directed this version, while Humphrey Bogart starred as Philip Marlow in the 1946 version titled "The Big Sleep"...Not to be confused with actor Dirk Bogarde!!! LOL!!! |
5.8 is utter for a Liam Neeson movie Even 'The Killers Next Door' are still holding up at 7.2 |
Now down to a shockingly low 5.7 Don't think we will be watching this anytime soon Soz, Liam |
Yeah i just cant bring myself to watch it, there is nothing about it that stirs any interest and i suspect i have derived more pleasure from downloading it, than actually watching it. I lack the same enthusiasm for Liam Neeson's work as others have expressed here. I have always seen him a bit like eric rober or the recently departed tom sizemore and now john travolta....just sad and pathetic |
