Huh, she is dead? I sometimes wondered why there wasn't much to hear of her |
I posted this elsewhere... "... your first dose may be a choice (that would be ignoring people who have been prescribed opiate-based painkillers for example, and become hooked on them). But thereafter, depending on your mental and physical well-being at the start, it's a well-established illness "... in the same way [as*] other chronic diseases". A person takes an addictive drug, their health and mental circumstances dictate whether they become addicted, that's not a conscious decision, it's ruled by "genetics, heredity, physiology, psychological, and environmental influences" which can increase or mitigate the severity of addiction. The addiction itself is then treated as a well-established illness... the same way as any other chronic disease: some people will get better on their own with minimal medical input, others may need all the help they can get. That -- again -- is not their conscious decision, it's ruled by "genetics, heredity, physiology, psychological, and environmental influences" ... "in the same way [as*] other chronic diseases". I'm thinking that should be clear enough by now, so I won't be saying any more. |
Wonderful movie. so sad the ending made me cry when the writing about her death came on. Thank you to the uploader and this wonderful site. Men do cry too some of us I suppose 61 male not ashamed to say I cry it's not just for women we cry as well. those with hearts. |
Was that her excuse for using drugs? Blame others instead of taking personal responsibility for herself? |
Did she need an"excuse" to use drugs? Get a lif and off your high horse, dude. |
Guys, there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of substance abuse amongst so many people, and a willingness to condemn others based on our own biases. Nobody here will listen to what I have to say, because many think of me as some "woke libtard", well if you don’t trust me, have a read of some actual research: “Addiction and substance use disorders (ASUD) have presented a challenge to public health for decades. In the modern era, a resurgence in efforts to address ASUD has occurred due to the expansion of risk and prevalence of addition in non-traditional ASUD populations. Many people hold stereotypes about persons with addiction and substance use disorders (ASUD) in which a person can “fit” a profile based on race, intellect, financial, or national origin. ASUD stigma and stereotypes not only perpetuate unrealistic notions of addiction, but they also create barriers to persons seeking healthcare treatment. Addiction response varies between persons the same way that other chronic diseases manifest differently between persons. The role of genetics, heredity, physiology, psychological, and environmental influences can increase or mitigate the severity of addition and the impact of substance use. The strongest mitigating factor that increases the probability of a successful outcomes from addiction is the interaction between financial resources and access to healthcare. Persons who have access to resources including housing, income, employment, and social support have better recovery outcomes and are perceived differently than persons without resource access” (Parker, et al., 2022, p. 680). recovering drug addict/alcoholic here, clean and sober since 11/27/82 - spent 25 years working with alcoholics/addicts/dually diagnosed. Real world experience! |
One of the major flaws of today's world is that we now label poor choices as "disorders" and actual disorders as "choices". Addiction is a choice, plain and simple, whether your addiction is drugs, booze, religion, or whatever. It takes a lack of will to become a junkie and an act of will to not become one. |
Addiction is not a choice. Whether you take the risk to get addicted by starting using substance, is. |
You are simply wrong. Using a drug without getting addicted is easy. I did every drug available in my early teens. I drank like a fish for 20 years. I smoked for 33. When I didn't want to do them, I didn't. I took opioids for pain daily for a decade. No addiction, no withdrawals when I quit, no problems. MY choice. |
Guest-1981: I'm afraid it is you who are wrong, you cannot base your statement on one or even just a few cases. The research cited above was based on the whole of Alaska over 20 years, "Addiction response varies between persons the same way that other chronic diseases manifest differently between persons." |
nope hes not wrong .. if you dont have the problems or personality for it you wont get addicted .... was taking morphine pills and shots for 7 months 3-4 times a day they the dr's even thought i was addicted nope quit non issue no withdrawal nothing even gave me meds for withdraws and never took em didnt need em. |
if you dont like what your taking or doing quitting is easy as you didnt want it in the 1st place ... |
The whole point is it might be easy for a few, but not the majority. Every body is unique and reacts differently. Why do some people go into cancer remission and others die of the same disease? "Genetics, heredity, physiology, psychological, and environmental influences" all play a part, same as any disease. |
It's easy to tailor a study to fit a liberal political agenda. My experiences with myself and many others over the past 50+ years put lie to that study. It's all part of the process of creating excuses for the "Gimme, gimme NOW!" kids they've created. Life is supposed to be about PFR, not lame excuses. |
Do addicts ever quit? Yes. How? An act of will. If an act of will can make one stop it necessarily follows that it is a lack of will which makes one fall into addiction in the first place. I know simple logic is very tough for liberals to follow but, c'mon! |
Guest-2072 I know simple reading can be very tough for people like you but, c'mon, give it a try. Substance abuse is not a disease per se, the body simply reacts to it like one, and treatment needs to follow suit. Some people will become addicted easier, and find it harder to quit than others. Try reading babes |
Drug addiction is a sickness. People should not judge but better to try and understand. We all have skeletons we keep hidden. |
Drug addiction is not a sickness thats a falsehood, it is the result of a sickness that had not been delt with No one forced them to put that sht in there bodies they made a choice to do that instead of properly dealing with there problems all by themselves ... |
Drug addiction is not a sickness, it is a weakness of will, a flaw in character. Junkies create themselves, they are not the result of "bad genes" and they deserve neither sympathy nor pity. |
So, Guest-4393, Mikey and I are not "exactly" on the same page on this one, but that's cool, intelligent people can disagree with respect; BUT, if Mikey can take or leave his weed, i.e., his weed has not become a "gateway" to something harder and he's not addicted, that kind of reinforces his point about free choice. |
You wanna bet? I ask him to not touch any weed (or substitute) for the next three years. See how "not addicted" he is. There may not be a physical dependance, but there certainly will be a psychological one. |
Drug, alcohol and tobacco addiction is not a sickness, its a lack of self control. Someone with a weak minded disposition allows it to consume them and really just needs to choose to steer clear, its as simple as that. People love to create excuses for individuals poor choices and behaviors in life. |
This one's easy for me. I didn't like a single one of her songs, NOT ONE! So I won't be watching it. For those who did find some value in her music, I'm sure Galaxy did some great work for ya! Go Galaxy! Woo-hoo! |
Something inside your head made you decide the whole world needs to hear that you will not watch this movie. I would like to hear what that something is. |
I second you, GuitarTroy! 1101.99999 % Hard Pass! |
dont think anyone cares what you think about an artist, its about the movie. im a metal head, but i enjoyed it. its like i never liked jazz until i went to a jazz club in prague, it was brilliant. so much so i bought a cd from the band, it was awful/ i know know only to watch it live. try something new it wont kill you |
@Guest-9788: None other than Dionne Warwick! |
@praguejay: I've never said anything negative to you. Why do you find the need to attack me, man? I'm a fellow metal head. We're supposed to be brothers. Why don't you find yourself and come back and be my friend, huh? Besides, I prefer Dionne Warwick to Whitney Houston. That was why my comment. |
thanks, wasnt trying to be nasty, but i was just shocked by kinda writing without seeing. and in 99% of the time ill try before i dislike.i went to the good food show, myself and my mate would always try something new. one year it was oysters. tried them twice, both methods of eating them. gross. thats all |
Yes, 11 years after her death, let's continue the worshiping of an addict who died of drugs overdose with at least 5 different narcotics in her system and her daughter also died in a similar manner, overdosed at 22 years old with 4 different narcotics plus alcohol in her system . Like mother like daughter, the rotten apple doesn't fall far from the tree. |
Junkie, yes, and no sympathy from me for that but she was a beautiful woman with an incredible voice (but terrible taste in men). While I loved to watch & listen to her I have no interest in watching someone less attractive & talented portray her. |
Fair enough comment Jaxe, but one can't deny she was gifted with an amazing talent. I do not condone drugs but boy did I love that girls voice. She will be remembered. |
Let's not celebrate anyone, but let's celebrate her work. You want to dismiss anyone who had personal flaws? There will be no one left to "worship". No one is perfect, artist, politician, athlete or common man. But at least she left an oeuvre to be enjoyed by many. |
As Grandpa always says 'everyone has their foibles' We are only flesh and blood human beings after all |
Take all your albums, all your tapes and all your CDs and burn them. 'Cause you know what, the musicians that made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years were rrreal fucking high on drugs. |
Oh no Guest-2329, you mean all those stories about Léo Delibes and the laudanum might be true? I don't believe it The next you'll be telling me is that Lynyrd Skynyrd smoked pot Or Stevie Ray Vaughan used hard liquor!! I am in shock |
LiberalLesbo - Guest-2329 paraphrased a Bill Hicks quote also used at the beginning of Tools Third Eye. Mr. J seems like a bit of a chud that's no fun at parties... or online. |
He's not a "chud" ... he's a joke. A walking, talking, writing ridiculous posts, living joke. Sadly, one that makes no one laugh. That's the true definition of pathetic. |
