| Howdy!
Not like we need another comment on this thread, but I just finished watching it and wanted to add a few thoughts for anyone who is still on the fence. On the plus side, I enjoyed the action scenes and special FX. There's no doubt that a lot of time, money and planning went into this production. A couple days ago when it was first uploaded here, I checked out a few reviews on IMDb to prepare myself mentally for this one. In at least three out of the six or seven reviews I read, the authors more or less wrote, "This was a complicated film; you should watch it twice." - which, to me, is a diplomatic way of saying "I have no idea wtf just happened." Add me to the list.
This movie, while top notch in many respects, was just a little too long and a little too confusing for my aging brain to digest. I mean if you have to watch a movie twice to understand the plot, the writer(s) haven't done such a hot job, in my humble opinion, to echo Reaper's comments on page one. Without giving too much away, the gist of the plot is that time is moving forwards and backwards at the same time (the why and the how are still not totally clear to me) and the race is on to save the world ... and the pretty girl from the bad man. That much I got.
As for the audio discussion, yes, it is a little tinny but I turned down the treble on my player and that helped. Like many movies, the action sequences are too loud, while the dialogues are too low, so you're constantly turning the volume up and down. Adding to the audio issue, in many scenes, there are dudes in full combat-gear wearing gas masks. When they shout into their masks, it really is hard to understand what they're saying. No biggie, tho, and the audio shouldn't be a deal-breaker.
If you want a good reason *not* to watch it, forget about the audio quality and consider the possibility that after 2 hours and 30 minutes, as the final credits start to roll, you might be saying to yourself, huh? what? is it over? On the other hand, if you're a sci-fi geek who understood and enjoyed the 2010 movie 'Inception' (and other similar time-bending flicks) you'll probably really dig this and think that I'm just stupid. No harm, no foul. I've been called worse. With all of that in mind, I've decided not to rate this movie. Maybe when there's 2 feet of snow on the ground I'll watch it again and see if that helps. :-)
Thanks, as always, to GalaxyRG - and to the members and guests who took time to comment. |
